Chapter 19 - Aftermath

[Kingdom of Nasca]

One hour after the cataclysmic clash of the true dragons.

The grand hall of the imperial palace was unusually quiet. Velgrynd, her body wrapped in magucal bandages, sat in a high-backed chair.

Her normally fierce eyes were clouded with exhaustion and pain.

Across from her stood Rudra, his face etched with worry.

"Velgrynd," Rudra began, his voice low and impatient, "tell me exactly what happened."

After the fight Velgrynd had fainted and it took almost an hour of healing to get her to wake up.

Velgrynd took a deep breath, her thoughts heavy with the recent battle. "Veldora... he's lost himself to his rage and vengeance. His ultimate skill, Alastor, has consumed him. I tried to stop him, but he escaped."

Rudra's expression darkened further. "This is worse than I feared. From what i sensed of Veldora,If he continues on this path, he could cause untold and irreparable destruction."

Velgrynd nodded, her eyes downcast. "I know. I tried to reach him, but his anger... it was overwhelming. He's changed from the old rampaging idiot"

Rudra paced the room for some timehis mind racing and eventuallysighed as he came to a decision.

"We can't let this information get out. If Milim finds out about what happened Charybdis , she might do something reckless."

He turned to a nearby aide, his voice commanding.

"Effective immediately, all information about Veldora and the recent events is to be classified. No word of this reaches Milim."

The aide nodded and hurried off to carry out the orders.

Velgrynd watched him go, her heart heavy with worry. "Do you really think we can keep this from her?"

Rudra sighed, his eyes meeting hers.

"We have to try. Milim is powerful, but she's also impulsive. If she acts without thinking, the consequences could be catastrophic."

Velgrynd leaned back in her chair, her body aching from the battle and the strain of healing.

Her thoughts were scattered, and she found it hard to focus.

"What's our next move, Rudra? How do we stop Veldora?" Her voice wavered, betraying her fragile state of mind.

Rudra's expression hardened.

"We prepare to put him down, even if it's only temporary. We gather our forces and come up with a plan to neutralize him before he can cause more harm."

Velgrynd's eyes widened as her body shuddered.

But before she could say anything she was interrupted by Rudra.

"Velgrynd," Rudra said

"But he's a threat to everyone now. We need to stop him before he destroys everything. This might be the only way to save him from himself."

Velgrynd looked away, her brother's parting words echoing in her mind.

"Velgrynd, I really hate you from all of my heart."

She started to tremble, her voice growing erratic.

"No... no, I can't accept this. There has to be another way. There has to be!, I've already wronged him enough"

Rudra grabbed her shoulders, forcing her to meet his gaze.

"Velgrynd! Snap out of it!" His voice was stern but filled with concern.

"I know you're hurting, but you need to focus. We can't afford to lose you to despair."

Velgrynd blinked, her breath coming in shallow gasps.

Slowly, Rudra's words began to pierce through her chaotic thoughts.

She steadied herself, though tears streamed down her face. "I... I can't do this, Rudra."

"I know," Rudra said, his voice softening.

"But if we don't act, we'll lose everything. We need to stop him, and then we can find a way to placate his anger and make up to him for this"

Velgrynd took a deep, shuddering breath, trying to gather her strength. "Alright. But we have to believe there's a way to save him without destroying him."

Rudra nodded, seeing the resolve return to her eyes.

"We will. But first, we need a plan. We need to prevent any further destruction."

As they stood in the quiet of the grand hall, both knew that the path ahead was synonymous to walking towards potential death.

But Rudra couldn't back down from it as a hero of humanity.

[The edge of Kingdom of elves]

A few days before The Death of charybdis

Melinda stood at the edge of the summoning circle, her heart pounding with anticipation.

The air crackled with energy as she chanted the final incantations, her voice joining the chorus of nearly 200 others.

She could feel the power of the fire spirit within her, its warmth a comforting presence as they invoked the forbidden ritual.

The summoning of Noir, the primordial black, was supposed to be their apex weapon against those dragons who had wronged us.

As the ritual climaxed, shadows twisted and writhed, and the temperature plummeted.

Melinda's ecstatic grin faltered as the summoning circle exploded into chaos.

Many of her comrades were consumed by the ritual itself, their bodies disintegrating into ash.

Melinda's fire spirit flared brightly, protecting her from the worst of the backlash.

When the dust settled, less than a third of their original number remained.

She panted heavily, her heart pounding with a mix of exhilaration and dread.

With Noir finally summoned, Melinda felt a rush of power. She gave the order that would change everything: "Noir, we implore you to kill Charybdis and Veldora."

Noir turned to her, its gaze cold and indifferent. "I won't act against Veldora,Charybdisis doable" it intoned, its voice reverberating with an eerie finality.

She wished to say something else but its eyes gave her dread down to her soul.

In the aftermath of the summoning, Melinda felt a cold dread settle over her , her instinctsfeeling like she had made a grave mistake.

She fled the site, leaving behind the remnants of her group, and sought refuge in a small hut near the eastern coast of the continent.

The isolation was her only solace as she tried to make sense of the catastrophic failure.

Days turned into weeks, but the haunting fear of retribution kept her on edge.

And then the day came she realised that her wish had become a reality.

But her ecstasy was hirt lived as the familiar but twisted presence of Veldora made itself known.

On that night, as she sat by the flickering fire trying to keep calm from the constnat explosion sounds invading her senses making her restless, she felt it—a sudden, overwhelming presence that paralyzed her entire being.

Cold sweat broke out on her skin, and her heart thudded painfully in her chest.

Slowly, she turned around, her eyes wide with terror.

Standing there, silhouetted against the moonlight, was a grotesque dragon-humanoid abomination.

Its body was twisted, a horrifying fusion of dragon and man, but it had no aura.

It was as if the air itself recoiled from the abomination.

Melinda's breath hitched in her throat as she recognized it from the feeling it gave her : Veldora.

Before she could react, her legs were erased from existence.

The pain was immediate and excruciating, and she tried to scream, but her voice caught in her throat.

She clawed at the ground, desperation fueling her need to escape, but Veldora's fury was unrelenting.

He moved with a terrible swiftness, his monstrous form looming over her.

Each strike was filled with his uncontrollable rage, and Melinda's vision blurred as the agony consumed her.

Her thoughts were a jumbled mess of regret and terror.

As the life drained from her body, Melinda's last conscious thought was of the fire spirit abandoning her.

She realized that the true cost of their ambition was far greater than any of them had anticipated.

The darkness they had unleashed was not something they could control or comprehend.
