Chapter 179 - A Sudden Departure

The next few weeks flew by in a blur of activity. Ryo was quickly settling into his new job, impressing his colleagues and superiors with his dedication and innovative ideas. Aiko, meanwhile, was busier than ever at the café, with new customers coming in every day, drawn by the warm atmosphere and delicious offerings. Life seemed perfect, and both of them were riding high on a wave of success and happiness.

One sunny Saturday afternoon, Aiko was at the café, supervising the bustling activity while chatting with some regulars. Suddenly, her phone buzzed with a message from Ryo: "Hey love, can you meet me at the park after work? There's something I need to talk to you about."

Aiko's heart skipped a beat. Ryo's message had an air of urgency that she couldn't ignore. She quickly wrapped up her tasks, handed over the responsibilities to her capable staff, and headed to the park.

When she arrived, she found Ryo sitting on their favorite bench, looking deep in thought. As she approached, he stood up and gave her a tight hug. "What's going on, Ryo?" Aiko asked, concern etched on her face.

Ryo took a deep breath. "I got a call from my boss today. There's an opportunity for a major project, but it involves a lot of travel. I'd be away for several months at a time."

Aiko's mind raced. They had just started to settle into their new life, and now this. "What did you say?" she asked, trying to keep her voice steady.

"I told them I needed to discuss it with you first," Ryo replied. "It's a big step for my career, but I don't want to be away from you for so long."

Aiko sighed, trying to process the information. She knew how much this opportunity meant to Ryo, but the thought of being apart for months was daunting. "I don't want to hold you back, Ryo. This is important for you, for us. We can make it work."

Ryo looked relieved. "Are you sure? I don't want you to feel like you're alone in this."

Aiko smiled, squeezing his hand. "We'll figure it out. We've faced bigger challenges together. Besides, with video calls and messages, we'll stay connected."

The decision made, they spent the rest of the afternoon walking through the park, talking about the details and making plans. By the time they headed home, they felt more at ease, ready to face this new challenge together.

That evening, they met Kenta and Hana for dinner, sharing the news. Kenta, ever the supportive friend, raised his glass in a toast. "To Ryo, and to new adventures. We'll miss you, buddy, but we know you'll make us proud."

Hana nodded, smiling. "And to Aiko, for being the amazing partner that she is. You two are unstoppable."

The evening was filled with laughter and camaraderie, their friends' support bolstering their spirits. As they walked home, Aiko leaned into Ryo, feeling the warmth of his presence and the strength of their bond.

Over the next few days, they prepared for Ryo's departure. Aiko took on more responsibilities at the café, ensuring everything would run smoothly in his absence. Ryo, meanwhile, organized his work, making sure he had everything he needed for the trip.

The day of Ryo's departure came quickly. At the airport, they held each other tightly, neither wanting to let go. "I'll miss you so much," Aiko whispered, her eyes glistening with tears.

"I'll miss you too, love," Ryo replied, kissing her forehead. "But this is just temporary. We'll be together again soon."

With a final, lingering kiss, Ryo walked through the gate, turning back one last time to wave. Aiko waved back, watching until he was out of sight, her heart aching but full of determination. This was just another chapter in their story, one they would face with the same strength and love that had brought them together.

As she walked back to her car, Aiko felt a sense of resolve. They would get through this, just as they had gotten through everything else. Their love was strong, and no distance could change that.
