Chapter 35 - killing as walking

David's tentacles waved menacingly as he declared, "Now I am trying to find that group to take my revenge." His words were cold, laced with a chilling certainty that sent shivers down the spines of those around him.

The realization hit the Hydra soldiers and everyone else like a jolt of electricity. David was no longer merely an enigmatic figure; he was now a relentless hunter on a personal quest. The soldiers understood with grim clarity that he was not in control of any organization but was instead tracking them down with singular focus.

As David continued to reveal his capabilities and objectives, a wave of anxiety swept over the Hydra soldiers. Despite their allegiance to Hydra, their fear was palpable. They cursed their ill fortune for being on this assignment, unable to fathom how a creature resembling an octopus—one who claimed to have once been human—could harbor such a vendetta. Their certainty grew that David had sought them out deliberately, not by accident.

Viper, looking worried and frustrated, gave a direct order from headquarters. " do it." Her voice was full of anger toward the organization that had released such a dangerous being. She decided to gather all the information she could about David.

Eagle, determined, readied his arrow. He knew if David's abilities were as strong as he claimed, escaping this fight would be tough.

The Hydra soldiers fired their guns. Bullets flew at David, but he dodged them with ease, moving smoothly and quickly. He disappeared and reappeared behind their formation, taunting them with a mocking, "Hey, I'm here." The soldiers, seeing his speed, started to believe his earlier claims. Despite their best efforts, David continued to avoid their shots effortlessly.

Frustrated, the soldiers decided to use grenades, hoping the explosions would finally trap David, despite knowing about his durability.

David remained in his position, unmoved. When the grenades exploded, the area was engulfed in a thick cloud of smoke and debris. As the dust began to settle, the soldiers saw David standing unscathed amidst the wreckage. His nonchalance was infuriating, a stark reminder of his overwhelming superiority.

Havoc, observing the scene unfold, felt a surge of dread. Realizing the severity of the threat David posed, he knew he had to act decisively or face certain death. Gathering a tremendous amount of energy in his hands, Havoc unleashed a powerful blast aimed directly at David. Unlike his previous, more controlled efforts to capture mutants, Havoc's attack was unleashed with full intensity. The explosion was cataclysmic, obliterating trees and terrain, and creating a massive crater over fifteen meters wide. Yet, despite the devastation, David remained elusive.

Eagle, using his X-ray vision, scanned the area for any signs of movement amid the explosion. His search was useless as David had moved behind Eagle. With his superior speed, David toyed with Eagle, making the situation increasingly dire.

Eagle's finely honed senses, developed through rigorous training, began to alert him to the impending danger. He turned around just in time to see David's large, yellow, round head. Recognizing him, Eagle swiftly pulled out a dagger to defend himself, but the blade shattered upon impact with David's resilient body. Desperation drove him to draw his guns and fire, but the rounds were equally ineffective.

David's smile widened, a look of satisfaction on his face as he said, "See, I told you."

Eagle's eyes widened in shock as he noticed a piece of the shattered dagger floating among David's tentacles. He realized with mounting horror that he hadn't seen David take the fragment. Before he could react further, David's tentacles moved with lethal precision, slicing through Eagle's neck in a swift, fatal motion.

As David dispatched Eagle, his thoughts turned to the remaining soldiers. He contemplated how best to handle them, knowing that his actions would have significant consequences.

Viper, her frustration boiling over, watched the unfolding scene through the surveillance cameras. Her anger escalated as she realized that Havoc and the others were likely to perish. Training such soldiers was an expensive and resource-intensive endeavor, particularly for mutants like Havoc and Eagle who had been meticulously trained for loyalty. Although they were not her final assets, they were undeniably valuable.

In a voice laced with command and urgency, Viper ordered, "I want all information about the organization he mentioned. Creating such a powerful entity is no trivial matter. Reach out to our spies immediately for the latest updates and see if any organization is making strides in this area." Her agents, visibly intimidated by David's display of power, hurried to execute her commands.

Back with David, he reappeared amidst the remaining soldiers. Havoc, recognizing that conventional tactics were failing, began firing energy blasts with renewed intensity. Yet, David continued to dodge with an almost effortless grace. He systematically took down the remaining soldiers, fully capable of exterminating them all instantly. However, he seemed to want to show his power to Viper, Alexandre, and Fury.

As the last of the soldiers fell, Havoc's voice rang out in a desperate plea, "Stop it! Stop moving or I will kill these mutants with my energy blasts."

David paused, his tone cold and measured as he responded, "Do you think your blast will reach them before my tentacles reach your head?"

The reality of their predicament settled heavily on Havoc and the others. The understanding that his survival was hanging by a thread became undeniable. Havoc, driven by desperation and curiosity, asked the question that had been on everyone's minds, "Why are you fighting us? Are we the ones who experimented on you?"

Viper, Fury, and Alexandre held their breath, their anticipation palpable. They waited anxiously for David's answer, hoping to understand why he was so determined to pursue them.
