Chapter 48 - Hurt

"How is it possible that it feels like you are breaking my heart, and I haven't even had you yet?"

― Elena Armas

Sloane Kingston

Harsh. Oblivious. Arrogant. Heartless.

Four words I never thought I'd use to describe the man before me.

Unfairly confining me to my house while not giving me the same option of knowing he's safe… I can't even put into words how pissed off I am.

"You don't even take the time to fire off a text that you're okay," I go on, keeping my tone even, refusing to show too much emotion. My voice echoes slightly in the cold, empty room, amplifying the tension between us.

He runs a hand through his hair, looking frustrated. "Sloane, it's not that simple—"

"I don't want to hear it!" I snap, cutting him off. "It's a basic courtesy, Christian. A simple message to let me know you're alive."

I don't bleed for the world anymore.
