"So, Rose, what about Erwin? Wasn't he a promising guy back in college, didn't you date him?" A classmate of Rose inquired at an awkward moment.
"Promising? He gained some notoriety in college but post-graduation, he's settled for a job paying mere millions and rents tiny room, and he's currently without a job and can't even afford his rent. Obviously, I ended things with him long ago." Continuously, Rose badmouthed Erwin , as if wanting to erase him from her past.
"To be jobless and unable to afford rent? How suprising that the talented man we knew from college days has now fallen into such a sad state. But I wonder if he will show up today." Initially curious about the talented Erwin , they now held diminished expectations.
"It appears we ought not to wait for anything from Erwin, Rose; thankfully, you were wise to find someone like Sam, ensuring a wealthy future as his wife," another female classmate commented with a hint of jealousy.
"No, no, you too shall meet someone like this; there's no need to envy me." Rose replied humbly, yet friends jealousy only inflated her happiness more and confirmed that her decision to leave poor Erwin was wise, for her friends would have surely laughed had she still been with him.
Sam also relished the praise, a slight smile forming on his lips, pride swelling within him silently.
"Erwin, I'm curious to see how you would dare to show your face around me today, if you have the audacity to come, I shall humiliate you in front of everyone."
While they talked, suddenly, a thin man burst energetically through the door, shouting loudly,
"Ladies and gentlemen, guess who I saw outside?"
"Has Lina arrived?" The boys shifted their attention. They were mainly here to see their college crush.
"No, it's Erwin, our talented university peer ." Gasping from his rush, the thin man was unable to finish.
"Erwin? What's so impressive about him?" The boys were indifferent, as were the girls who once expected Erwin but not harboured doubts having heard Rose's words.
Besides, they showed no interest in a penniless man lacking a job who couldn't even pay rent.
Sam was even more eager, intending to embarrass Erwin the moment he showed, ensuring Erwin ceased any airs around him.
But after the thin man caught his breath, he suddenly announced loudly.
"He's driving an incredibly cool Ferrari F12 berlinetta; many are now watching him outside."
"Ferrari?" Everyone gasped in astonishment.
"A Ferrari F12 costing at least 10 billion or more, how did Erwin afford such a luxury car within just three years of gradbeyonduation? This is beyond riches."
"Erwin driving a Ferrari? Simply astonishing." The men disbelieved, contemplating asking Erwin for wealth advice, as did the woman in shock.
"Erwin in a Ferrari, Rose, didn't you say he lost his job and was so poor he couldn't pay rent?"
The woman began to doubt Rose's previous statement, their eyes suddenly carrying renewed hope for Erwin.
