The car rolled gently along the ice-covered road. Emily peered through the window. The sky and the ground were white. The snow was getting heavier and heavier.
Emily averted her eyes, and she looked absently at Klaus, who was in the passenger seat, and who was looking at her through the car's rearview mirror.
Emily lowered her eyes and deliberately avoided Klaus's burning gaze.
Presently the car pulled up outside a hotel. Klaus got out and opened the door for the two women. Emily had just got out of the car when a blast of cold air, mingled with snowflakes, struck her, freezing and stinging her face.
Klaus immediately took off his coat and threw it over Emilie, shielding her from the cold wind and snow with his tall body.
