West, Border Battlefield
What a strange night. Klaus thought to himself as he slowly raised his head and cast his gaze into the dark night. The moon seemed to have been so closely enveloped by a thick cloud that its once brilliant light was completely obscured, and not a particle of it was able to penetrate. The surrounding stars also disappeared without a trace, as if they had never existed. The whole sky was like a great black curtain, heavy and depressing, and causing one to feel an unaccountable uneasiness.
The wind blew quietly, carrying a slight coolness, but not able to blow away the dense darkness. The wheat in the fields lay silent in the darkness, as if they, too, had been affected by the eerie atmosphere, and had lost their former vigour. The mountains in the distance became dim, black shadows in the night, like silent beasts, bearing an aura of mystery and danger.
