The King's Palace
The palace physician was examining Emily's wounds, which, fortunately, were now nearly healed thanks to the timely application of herbs. Initially, Klaus had insisted that Emily be taken to the hospital for a checkup, but that no longer seemed necessary.
The court physician re-cleaned and re-bandaged Emily's wound, and before leaving, explained that she should try not to let the surface of the wound come into contact with water until it was completely healed, to prevent infection.
Emily nodded before Klaus escorted the court physician out of the room, leaving her and Klaus alone.
Emily glanced at the silver tray on the table, where a mountain of expensive jewels lay. They were the prizes she had won that evening.
Emily knew very well that the jewels did not belong to her at all, no more than did the title of Princess Snowflake, as she had not even won the contest.
