Emily opened her eyes, and the warm light streaming through the window seemed to possess a healing power, as if the sun itself was bathing the room in its golden glow. She spotted Klaus lounging on the couch, his eyes closed. His expression was unusually peaceful in the sunlight.
Emily sat up, her movements as gentle as a feather floating to the ground. As she prepared to exit the bed, Klaus's deep voice penetrated her consciousness. "Are you awake, lover?"
Klaus rose from the couch and approached the bed, gazing at her tenderly.
"How did you know I was awake?" Emily thought she had risen silently enough to allow Klaus to rest longer, so she hadn't intended to disturb him.
Klaus caressed Emily's hair and kissed her cheek. "I can sense you, because you're my mate."
