Emily was awakened by the insistent ringing of the telephone. Half-squinting her eyes, she moved languidly to the bedside table and fumbled for the phone.
"Hey, this is Adam." Prince Adam's gentle voice came from the other end of the line. "Are you up, Emily?"
"Adam?" Emily rubbed her eyes and gradually came to her senses. She slowly sat up in bed. "Yes, I'm awake."
"My father wants to have lunch with you. Are you free?" There was a hint of anticipation in Prince Adam's voice.
"The king wants to have lunch with me?" Emily was a little stunned. She hesitated for a moment before saying, "Okay."
"I'll pick you up in ten minutes." Prince Adam's tone was light and pleasant. "I'll see you later."
However, her heart sank as her gaze darted across the bed. The space that had belonged to Klaus was empty, and the flat sheets seemed to silently testify to his absence.
