Chapter 3 - Hunger(3)

I look at the gate with the witch just following me from behind. I turn around to look at her and ask.

"How should we cross this wall?"

The towering stone wall stood at 10 feet tall as the witch suddenly pulled a wing from her back and flew her way to the top of the stone wall.

I stared at her with wide eyes as this world kept surprising me more and more every time.

I slowly crouch then put a considerable amount of power into my leg making the ground crack because of my strong legs as I jump to the top of the wall.

'Remember, we are monsters. Do not bring unnecessary interaction with humans.'

I nod as I stare at the city filled with candles and lamps. It is around the bronze age although I could feel something different... Magic? The lamp seems to be burning on its own without anything fueling it.

The witch then flew down to the top of an inn and I followed her as I jumped down. My feet landed on the ground and I fell to my face.

"Ugh..."

'Stop being so careless and let's find a place to rest first'

I sigh at her and nod. She then flew down next to me as her wings slowly went back into her body. It looks like she didn't even have wings in the first place.

"Umm, I'm hungry... Can I eat a few people here? They ain't noticed right"

'No, control your hunger for now'

I nodded as she suddenly vanished in front of the spots she was in.

I gasped and a few moments later, she came back with a dozen bronze coins in her hands.

"Now, there seems to be an inn I saw earlier... It's 'Wolf Inn', want to check it out?"

'Lead the way'

I then ran as fast as I could and the witch was just following me from behind without any sign of tiredness. The fact that I can run as fast as a bunny and cross several buildings in an instant feels so powerful.

Of course, no one was around otherwise they would never have believed there would be someone so fast running in the city.

"Here we are" I look over the big sign stating that this is the 'Wolf Inn' and push the door open.

I pull the cover of my hood down and the inside of the Inn looks like a bar. A singular man was standing at the counter with his shiny bald that could be seen from miles away.

"Welcome, any reason for coming so late?" the bald man welcomed both of us with a friendly smile.

She stayed silent beside me as her thoughts went into my mind.

'You, go deal with the bald man and find us a place to rest.'

She wanted me to deal with the bald man and try to negotiate for a place here. There is something sinister about the bald smile that I can't shake off the feeling.

No, it's not the bald man that is sinister... It's me, my mind sick with many dark thoughts. Painful thoughts of wanting to just chop the man in many pieces and eat him but I then took a deep breath and tried to get rid of the dark thoughts clouding my mind.

I had always been like this since I was ever born. I tried to not act on the thoughts but the war from my last life let my true self out... I could still feel like much blood from my past life was overflowing in my hands.

I killed so many... I tried to be different in this life since I was given a second chance.

"How much does a night cost here?" I stand close to the counter and ask the bald man.

"Haha, it will take at most 4 bronze coins and another 2 bronze coins for the food here." the bald man responds with a bright smile as I look over the dozen bronze found in my hand.

"You see, we came from a long distance. I hope you can see how hard it is to stay here with little money and can you do a favor for us? To cut half of the price down"

The bald thought for a moment with his finger pressing against his chin.

He then smiled brightly and said, "Hm, I can but only for this night because I can't do any more help after that, okay?"

You nod as you then give the 2 bronze coins to the man. "Thank you."

The bald man nodded as the witch quickly got up the stairs and entered the room assigned to us.

I watched the witch just jump to the fluffy bed as I sighed.

"What are we doing here anyway?"

'What else? Let's make this town a mess~'

I could finally see something else in the witch's face other than the usual indifferent face but I also noticed... I was smirking.

I tried to calm down as I looked at the witch.

"We can but let me get stronger first"

The witch turned to look at me with its sharp deep red eyes.

'Do whatever you want, just don't get us into an unnecessary mess'

I nod as I sit at the edge of the bed. I look over the skill tab on my status window.

[ skill ]

- Devourer -

Your hunger will never dissipate and you can obtain the victim skills depending on how much you are them.

"Oh... I can get the skill? I do feel hungry tight now~"

My smile rose to my eyes that I didn't even realize as the witch had already fallen into a deep sleep beside me.
