Chapter 13 - The Swatt

"What? So Anderson already knows? Who told him about this?" Emily sounded panicked, but thankfully Adrian took control. "Ah, I called Mr. Anderson. He's going to find the best lawyer for Emily."

Emily breathed a sigh of relief. "Oh, thank goodness. But I still need to inform Anderson and confront that bastard," Miranda said, her voice filled with anger. "Adrian, take care of Emily for me. Stay with her."

Adrian nodded. "Where are you going?"

Miranda looked at Adrian with determined eyes. "I'm going to confront that little rat!"

Adrian tried to stop her. "Aunt!" But it was in vain. Miranda was already walking quickly out of the room.

She ran to her car, her heart burning with rage. She pressed down on the gas pedal hard, merging onto the highway with the intent of confronting Lucia.

Inside the car, Miranda's mind was racing. "How could Lucia do this to Emily? This can't go unpunished! I'll make sure she gets what she deserves."

Emily, still in jail with Adrian, tried to calm her anxious lover. "Don't worry, Emily. Aunt Miranda just wants to make sure everything is taken care of. We have to trust her."

Emily looked at Adrian with tearful eyes. "I'm scared, Adrian. What if things don't go as planned?"

Adrian squeezed Emily's hand, giving her a reassuring grip. "We'll get through this together. Aunt Miranda is strong, and we have to be strong too."

Meanwhile, on the road, Miranda continued to drive at high speed. She didn't care about the curious looks from other drivers she passed. "Lucia, you'll regret hurting my daughter," she muttered with determination.

Arriving in front of Lucia's house, she muttered, "I can't believe she lives in an elite building after being kicked out of the house. But this isn't my focus right now!" Miranda got out of the car quickly. Without hesitation, she knocked on the door hard, ready to face the woman who had made Emily's life miserable.

"Get out here, you bitch! Lucia, don't be a coward!"

Miranda stepped quickly toward Lucia's door, her heart burning with anger. She knocked hard on the door, almost pounding it with her fist. After a few seconds, the door opened, and Lucia appeared with a surprised expression.

"What is it, Miranda?" Lucia asked, confused.

"What is it?!" Miranda almost screamed. "How dare you hurt Emily! What were you thinking, huh?!"

Lucia stepped back a little, shocked by Miranda's verbal assault. "I don't know what you're talking about. I didn't hurt Emily."

"Liar!" Miranda pointed at Lucia with her index finger. "Emily is in jail because of you! You think you can just ruin my daughter's life and get away with it?"

Lucia tried to stay calm, even though her heart started pounding. "Mrs. Miranda, I didn't do anything illegal. Emily attacked me. I was just defending myself."

"Nonsense!" Miranda shouted louder. "You must have provoked her! Do you think you can take her place just like that, huh? Do you think Adrian will choose you after all this?"

Lucia clenched her teeth, angry at the accusation. "Mrs. Miranda, I never wanted to replace Emily. I gave that man back, and he chose to be with Emily. As for jail, that's a legal matter, not my decision."

"Don't pretend to be innocent!" Miranda brought her face closer to Lucia. "You'll regret hurting my family. I'll make sure you pay for this."

Lucia looked at Miranda with a sharp gaze. "Mrs. Miranda, I understand that you're angry. But accusing me without evidence won't solve anything. If you want to talk about this, let's resolve it calmly."

"Calmly?!" Miranda laughed cynically. "Do you think I can stay calm after seeing my daughter treated like this? Don't dream! I'll never let you destroy my family."

Lucia took a deep breath, trying to control her emotions. "I have no intention of destroying anyone, Mrs. Miranda. This is all a misunderstanding."

"Misunderstanding or not, I don't care!" Miranda interrupted with a sharp voice. "All I care about is my daughter! And if you hurt her again, you'll have to deal with me!"

Miranda turned angrily, leaving Lucia standing at the door. Meanwhile, in her heart, Miranda felt a little relieved to have vented her anger. But she knew this fight wasn't over. She was determined to protect Emily no matter what. "You see what I'm doing? I will destroy you, you will suffer for the rest of your life, mark my words, you little bitch!"

---

I looked at myself in the mirror, Emily's scratch marks still clear on my cheek. Some blood had dried around the wounds, making them look worse than they were. But despite the visible physical injury, I couldn't stop smiling.

Even though Evan hadn't called, he had shown his concern in an unexpected way. The arrival of a doctor at my house was proof of his care for my health. As the doctor carefully cleaned and treated my wounds, I felt very special.

"These will heal in a few days. He forced me to do surgery hahaha that was very funny, these scratches don't require any surgery," the doctor said soothingly with a warm joke. "Just make sure to keep them clean and don't let them get infected. He will contact me for that and ensure you're back to normal."

I nodded, feeling a little more at ease. But it wasn't just the medical care that made me feel better, it was Evan's attention. Even though he wasn't physically here, every little thing he did, like sending the doctor to my house, warmed my heart.

After the doctor left, I sat on the couch, clutching my phone tightly. I knew Evan was busy with work, but every time he showed his care, I felt like the luckiest person in the world. Not everyone has someone who cares so much, and I promised myself to cherish every moment of it.

I smiled again, despite the pain in my cheek. The warmth in my heart was stronger than the physical pain I felt. I knew that with Evan by my side, I could get through this.

My mind went back to the moment the doctor arrived. "Evan sent me," he said. It was a simple sentence, but it meant so much to me. Amid all the chaos and pain, Evan made sure I got the care I needed.

I closed my eyes, imagining Evan's worried face. His comforting smile always made me feel better. I felt so lucky to have someone like Evan in my life, someone who was always there, even if not always visible.

The wound on my cheek might take time to heal, but Evan's care and love made the healing process feel easier. I knew that whatever happened, as long as Evan was there, I would always feel special and loved.

I needed to rest, but it seemed fate had other plans. Just as I lay down on the couch, the doorbell rang loudly and repeatedly. Reluctantly, I got up and opened the door, only to find Miranda standing there, her face full of anger.

"What are you thinking, Lucia?!" she yelled without giving me a chance to greet her.

I took a deep breath, trying to calm myself. "Mrs. Miranda, please calm down. What's going on?"

"Don't pretend you don't know!" she snapped. "My daughter, Emily, is in jail because of you! What exactly did you do?"

I gritted my teeth, feeling annoyed. "Mrs. Miranda, I didn't do anything. Emily came and attacked me. I was just defending myself."

"That's impossible! Emily wouldn't do that without a reason. You must have provoked her!" Her voice grew louder, drawing the attention of the neighbors.

Feeling tired and frustrated, I responded, "Mrs. Miranda, I've explained everything to the police. Emily started this fight. I have no reason to hurt her."

"Of course you wouldn't admit it!" Miranda approached me with a hateful expression. "I don't know why your father married me and loved me. But you're a troublemaker in our family!"

Her words were sharp, but I tried to stay calm. "Mrs. Miranda, I don't understand why all this has to happen. I just want to live peacefully without any disturbances. I didn't start this problem. And tell that to Anderson, then divorce him! You and Emily are the ones who took my family!"

Miranda seemed not to be listening. She continued to speak angrily, while my mind drifted to the past. I was always confused about why my father chose a woman as harsh as Miranda. Since she came into our lives, there always seemed to be drama and problems.

I felt tired and confused, wondering why there had to be so much hatred and conflict. I just wanted to rest, but it seemed Miranda wouldn't allow me to.

"I'll make sure you regret this, Lucia," she finally said coldly before turning and leaving.

I closed the door with mixed feelings. How could I rest and relax when I was constantly faced with such problems? I sat back on the couch, trying to calm my mind. The scratch on my cheek still hurt, but the pain in my heart was even greater. I just hoped all this would end soon.

Less than five minutes after the door closed, a crash outside startled me awake. I quickly looked out the window. "Oh my God!"

I hate violence, but deep down, a part of me wanted this to happen. To make Miranda suffer, to feel even a fraction of the pain she caused in my family's life.

Less than five minutes after the door closed and a crash sounded outside, I woke up abruptly, immediately looking out the window. "Oh my God!"

I hate violence, but deep down, there's a part of me that wanted this to happen. To make Miranda suffer just a bit, to feel some of the pain my family has endured. But now, seeing the situation unfold like this, there's a mix of conflicting emotions raging inside me.

I stared at Evan standing near the overturned car, straightening his jacket after that horrific incident. My heart was filled with questions and confusion. Evan, what did you do?

"Evan," I called out, my voice trembling. "What really happened? How did you end up here?"

Evan turned to me, his face calm, his eyes slightly narrowed, and his smile somewhat forced. "Darling, how about you?" He approached me, hugging me tightly around the waist, but my focus was stolen by what was happening out there.

What's happening? I wondered inwardly.

"Lucia, I saw Miranda's car swerving uncontrollably, and I tried to stop her. But I was too late."

I felt a mix of guilt and concern. "So, you didn't intentionally crash into her?"

Evan shook his head. "No, Lucia. I was trying to help, but the situation got out of my control."

Despite still being confused and worried, there was something in Evan's voice and eyes that made me trust him. He's always been there for me, and I know he wouldn't do something like this on purpose.

An ambulance arrived, and paramedics swiftly moved to assist Miranda. They took her into the ambulance, and I felt a little relieved seeing them handle the situation professionally.

"Evan, what do we do now?" I asked, still feeling confused and anxious.

Evan placed his hand on my shoulder, offering a bit of comfort. "We'll go to the hospital and make sure Miranda is okay. After that, we'll figure out what really happened."

I nodded, feeling slightly calmer with Evan by my side. Despite the chaotic situation, I knew I could rely on Evan. But in my heart, the question still lingered: Evan, what did you do? I hoped a clear answer would come soon.

*****

Five minutes earlier,

"I received a report that Miranda's at your house."

"Miranda?"

"Emily's mom!" Han was still on the security communication in Evan's apartment.

"Hah! She has the courage, full-speed driving!" said Evan.

"What do you want?" Han had already suspected Evan's intentions from the car window.

"What's her car?"

"Family minivan."

"Good, make it spin, just a little bump."

"Do you know what kind of car we have? This won't be balanced." Han tried to warn. "Someone could get seriously injured or even killed."

Han frowned as Evan laughed. "Hahahaha, just make it smooth! Ah, have you sterilized the apartment residents? They've all been paid off?"

"Safe!" Han replied, but Evan's eyes were fixed on the parking lot of the building they entered, as if he had already targeted his goal. "Evan, I already told you, don't go all bold in front of Lucia if you don't want her to bounce. She's just 20, from a straight-up normal fam. She ain't about our wild, unpredictable life, and she's clueless about mafia, agents, and all that jazz." who care for him, Lucia Lucia is him whole damn purpose in life now.

"Okay, I can see her car, 1, 2, 3, DO IT!"

CRASH!!!
