Chapter 12 - RYKER [Bounty Hunters]

[Author's POV]

[Scene 1]

Richard: "I still cannot believe, I could be the only one who is worthy to bear the dragon's tooth."

Nicholas: "We all have a destiny to fulfill in this life Richard, I know yours may seem heavier than you can bear but I believe that the universe can't place you in battles you cannot fight."

Elora: "Nicholas is right Richard, I know you may be wondering what kind of prophecies the journal might contain and why the Dragon's tooth has called on you as it's bearer, but I believe in you Richard, and I know you will be great."

Richard: "Few weeks ago I was just a random lad in Norrich, I felt invincible like the whole town hated me or something, but now the Queen of Norrich is after me. My whole life has changed..... just like that."

They noticed the huge walls around the city as they approached, it was beautiful and very tall.

They moved towards the huge gates where two guards were posted. There was a line of people entering the city, and in front of them were two men carrying cargo.

As they stood before the gate, the guard asked in a firm voice. "State your name and business." Asking the first man.

Man 1: "I am Humbert de Thorens, and I bring supply of fine ceramics and exotic wood from Wellington."

Guard: (After thoroughly searching) " very well, you may proceed."

The mighty gates were lifted and the first man took his cargo in. Then, the man in their front which was the second man was asked the same question. So he responded

Man 2: "I am Edwin Godrich, Cotton and Silk threads from Elyndor."

Guard: (After thoroughly searching) "very well you may proceed."

But before the man could enter the gates the guards spotted a Norrich label on his clothing.

The guard's hand rested on his sword. "Hold it there, Edwin. Where did you say you came from"

Edwin turned back to them saying " I came from Elyndor".

Guard 1: "You're not fooling anyone with that crest on you robe and that scar on your face, you are from Norrich, you will have to come with us."

Edwin tried to run so the guard drew his sword, and Edwin punched him, sending him stumbling back.

Richard, Nicholas, and Elora exchanged worried glances.

Guard 2: "Seize him! He's a spy!"

Edwin struggled as the guards pinned him to the ground,

Edwin: "I am not a spy, I used to live in Norrich but my home was destroyed!"

But they handcuffed him and took him away.

Finally, Richard and his crew were next in line.

Guard 1: "Name and business before entry, I see you do not carry any loads."

Elora's friends hesitated, but she quickly stepped in, speaking with confidence.

Elora: "I'm Elizabeth, niece of Lord Ravenswood, a prominent businessman within the walls. I've come to deliver messages from our family's trading partners."

The guards' expressions softened, intrigued by the mention of Lord Ravenswood's name.

Guard 1: (nodded) "Very well, Miss Elora. You may enter."

But as they stepped forward, a guard halted them. Guard 1: "Wait, what about these two?" His gaze were upon Richard and Nicholas, he looked at them suspiciously.

Dracos was still in the pendant he gave to Richard. Elora thought quickly, her words spilling out in a rush.

Elora: "This is my husband, Thomas. And... uh... Mr. Grumpy over there is my father-in-law, Martin."

Richard's eyes widened in surprise, but he quickly played along, nodding in agreement.

Richard: "Yes, that's right. We couldn't possibly leave him behind. He needs our care."

The guard raised an eyebrow, he took notice of Nicholas's agile form.

Guard 2: "This man doesn't look like he needs care at all." His hand rested on the hilt of his sword, as if we was about to order an arrest.

Elora became afraid, but she maintained her composure.

Elora: "Oh, but he does. He's... uh... frail in his old age. We must ensure his safety."

The guard's face still looked doubtful, but after a tense moment, he gave in.

Guard 1: "Fine, you can go in. But remember, we don't want to see any funny activities going on around here."

As they walked through the gate, Nicholas gave Elora a grateful look. Richard whispered,

Richard: "That was really close, if they knew we were from Norrich as well we would have been arrested like that man we saw at the gates."

Elora: "seems you've forgotten I'm from Elyndor not Norrich."

Nicholas: "you're right Elora, but it wouldn't matter cause you're with us. It seems the king is trying to secure the city so I don't think we will stay here as long as I thought. We'll just have to get the things we need and find a place to continue your training and search for the dragon's tooth."

Elora: "I suppose you're right Nicholas, we'll just have to get some food supply and some clothes then we can head out of the city. I know a place we could go."

As Richard, Nicholas, and Elora were about to enter the tavern, a commotion erupted outside. A masked robber, dashed through the streets, dodging market stalls. He was holding a sack which looked like it was containing silver.

He was almost getting away, so Nicholas tried to reach for his sword but Elora halted him.

Elora: "No we wouldn't want to get involved". She said to him.

Then a young man threw a bolas at the robber, and the robber fell to the ground.

"Not on my watch!" The young man exclaimed, holding the struggling robber in place.

The city guards arrived, surrounding the scene.

"Well done, young man!" a guard praised, taking the robber into custody.

He smiled, dusting himself off.

"Just doing my part."

The Market Square began to applaud him.

Elora's eyes sparkled with admiration, He was a tall young man with dark spiky hair, dressed in a tunic and breeches, with a leather belt around his waist and a pouch containing two swords, hung on his back.

He noticed them and walked over to Elora.

Ryker: "Hello gorgeous, I'm Ryker."

Elora: "You're quite the hero."

Ryker: "Well I hate to see wanted criminals get away for sure."

Nicholas: "That was brave of you."

Richard extended his hand.

Richard: "I'm Richard, this is Nicholas and Elora. We're travelers."

Ryker shook Richard's hand.

Ryker: "Ryker. Welcome to Savoyen. What brings you here?"

Richard: "we're hoping to get some food and some other supplies here before we continue our journey."

As they talked, Elora couldn't help but notice Ryker's charming smile. It drew her in, making her feel at ease. She saw that he was looking at her in the same way, his eyes soft and focused, like he was truly listening.

There was something unspoken between them, a quiet connection that made each glance feel special, as if they shared a secret only they could understand.

Ryker: "Well it seems, you'll be here for a while, you can stay at my place."

Elora: "sure!... I mean if it wouldn't be an inconvenience."

Ryker: we'll be okay, I could give you a tour around the place too.

Ryker started walking and Elora followed. Nicholas and Richard shared a glance before they followed.
