Chapter 65 - Chapter 62: Stalker

The 3 bullets that he shot killed one of the wolves, a bullet hit the animal in its eye and promptly claimed its life. The wolf cut by the sword was noticeably slower and some of its moments were erratic. Shirou promptly holstered his gun as the threat became manageable, he had a predisposition towards using his sword and this can count as the 1st live test of phosphoric fang.

Gandr curse was applied on the wolf but it was a variant that occurred when the gem and blade were fused. Rin had trapped a fin shot inside the gem and the gem had become a part of the cursed blade, so anything cut by it is applied with gandr and the curse worsens their condition instead of just affecting their health.

Unlike the original curse that can make you faint or heart fail this version acts like a bleeding effect or makes the spread of any damage the blade did easier. The wolf slowly staggered and in a minute its injured leg gave in as it fell on the floor. Taking advantage of the gap in the coordinated assault of the beasts shirou took a wide stance and swung the blade upwards in an inclined manner.

Scarlet cut spread from the wolf`s leg to its neck and it fell on the ground twitching. He slowly walked towards the fallen beasts and observed them. He drew his blade again as if to gift them the mercy of death but the hope faded and the one standing in front of them was a magus. As the beasts bleed to death the boy injected mana into them and used structural grasp to study the spread of the curse in them.

Finally when the floor was stained red in swift motion the blade of the katana penetrated the skull of the animals giving them instant death. A little distance away kiritsugu removed his eye from the scope of his sniper rifle. The magus killer had constantly observed his son throughout the test to judge him as well as maintain his safety by putting a 300-magnum round in the skull of any assailant that came close to threatening the boy`s life.

Shirou shook his head and wrapped up the papers, these reports are going into the forge next time he lights it. Shirou went back to his daily life after this small interlude. He practised smithing and it was already very refined now, he asked Tatsuo about this and the teacher and student slowly began resembling peers. Tatsuo finally taught shirou how to make a sword from 4 different pieces of steel, which was the limit of his skill.

He also informed shirou how the original technique of Murasame school was famous for their 7 layered swords and their recurring wave-like hamon on the blades. Shirou inwardly decided to seek out the complete legacy or at least a murasame blade to decode the smithing technique from. One fine day he decided that this time he would attempt to forge another blade like a phosphoric fang, but this time rather than a full flezed sword he would make a short dagger for Rin as a birthday gift.

As if proving his estimation correct, he was able to knife a sword for Rin after 3 failed attempts, which resulted in him having mostly spent all his materials. He sent the blade to the sharpener and meticulously carved a blue saya and tsuba for her in the act of representing heartfelt gratitude. As he progressed in his meditation and training shirou discovered that his senses were exceptionally sharp, kiritsugu reasoned that the boy was a natural-born warrior and was cursed with exceptional instincts.

So trusting these senses he had concluded that someone was spying on him at random times, he had sporadically felt a similar gaze on him throughout the whole week. He didn't freak out or take action because he didn't feel any malice in the gaze so he allowed whoever was doing it to continue as he searched for the perpetrator.

For the next few days, he discretely scoured his surroundings and found the one-by-elimination method. He was very astounded to find that the one constantly peeking at him was a little girl with long, lustrous violet hair, which she styled with a red-pink ribbon on the left side and violet eyes. She looked like she was about a year younger than him but what fascinated and disturbed him at the same time were her eyes.

Those violet gem-like eyes were hollow and blank instead of filled with vibrancy like a child of her age should be. He finds himself fascinated with them because it's like looking at a tilted mirror for him, the look like she had given up everything and going with the flow like rootless weed stroke a cord within him.

Numerous times he had pondered the questions of and . The basic instinct of all life can push one so far. After the visions of gruesome deaths had stopped and the phantom pain in his body had decreased to minimum he began pondering the worth of his rushing to get better.

He felt a profound sense of emptiness after the goal of survival and fear lessened making them seem a distant memory. The human nature to forget bad things made it so that he now was in a dilemma as to why is he training till his body gives up and why is he trying his very best, just to survive then what is the difference between him and the beasts he killed.

A few months ago when shirou and Rin had become extremely comfortable with each other after the forge incident they had let their guard down and given up the cumbersome process of maintaining distance at school. Sakura who was walking through the corridor like a puppet left her class during the lunch break to go to Rin`s class.

She wanted to continue the silent observation of her sister from a distance as she had done till now.
