Chapter 64 - Chapter 61: 10 Years Old

The crest of the emiya family is fragmented hence shirou could accept it with the risks due to his compatibility. If he tried to take the whole emiya crest then he would die a very gruesome death outside of some special circumstances. By virtue of high compatibility, the risk was minimised to the amount of having 2 organ replacement surgeries at once.

Still, Shirou's body used to be assaulted by sudden surges of pain making his nerves fire and muscles contract. This had left him flapping like a fish on a chopping board in the class once. Shinji sitting beside him had panicked that time when the boy who was talking with him suddenly fell off his chair and started shaking on the floor.

The teacher rushed him off to the school nurse, the students were hoarded out of the medical room by the teacher. Finally, without any other symptoms, the nurse contacted kiritsugu who immediately sent Taiga there. The nurse repeatedly emphasised the seriousness of this and said to have shirou checked up. She suspected him of having Epilepsy.

After a lot of discussions at the emiya household at night, the father and son went to the hospital where shirou and Rin had their small adventure. With the help of magecraft and mundane medical tools not being able to detect the crest shirou was diagnosed with a case of epilepsy. They bought the prescribed medicine and once they reached home it was promptly discarded.

Shirou had experienced various cramps and spasms in his muscles at random intervals, it had become risky and nearly fatal at various times, as shirou had continued his training during this adaptability phase. Shirou was pulled back from his pondering by the plane landing at the airport.

Using discrete methods the father and son pair went to Melvin`s residence. melvin had become more lax and behaved more friendly around the duo which perplexed shirou quite a bit. He didn't know that his father had shared an edited version of the holy grail war with the tunner, the snobby rich man had put 2 and 2 together and found out the reason behind Kiritsugu`s current mental condition.

For him who loved seeing people fail high-value gambles, he savoured the profound despair that the magus killer must have felt when the gamble that cost everything the man cherished had failed. Magi being the insane group they were this was normal, melvin felt some form of appreciation towards the pair and also kept his promise to take care of Emiya Crest for shirou after he heard the story which nobody completely knew.

He savoured the thrill of knowing a limited-edition adventure as he informed the drowsy shirou that they needed only one more transfer to completely inherit the emiya crest. The last piece was the largest and contained the magecraft that kiritsugu had programmed into it.

Shirou now had his life guaranteed as long as his body had magic energy and he wasn't wiped out by an attack containing overwhelming mystery that transcended the crest by leagues. He will not encounter something like that unless he is hit by a grand magecraft ritual or attacked by a supreme mystic code.

The emiya family slipped out of the mansion in the evening and they were fully armed as they didn't want to risk their lives for people that have too much free time like last time. While on the plane going back the boy looked at his father and went into his thoughts.

He observed the haggard visage of the man he called father. He didn't notice it at first, as the change was gradual, and he fell victim to attentive blindness. Kiritsugu looked like a terminally sick patient. His muscles had shrunk a lot compared to his magus-killer days, and the bones of his body were visible in many places.

He looked malnourished and tired, his eyes had bags that resembled soot. Except for going bald, he gave a vibe very similar to cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy and the most disturbing thing for shirou was he felt a sense of forbearance when he looked at the man. When he meet Shinji for the first time he felt an innate sense of disgust towards the blue-haired boy and similarly, shirou felt that something bad is approaching him and it is related to kiritsugu.

They reached home without any major incident and enjoyed a peaceful meal. Time passed, and another year passed from the 4th Holy Grail War. On a particular day, there was a parcel delivered to the emiya residence that lacked any marking. After checking it for potential hazards the father and son opened it and after reading the letter in it for some sentences they pretty much figured out the sender of the letter.

It was probably the handiwork of Melvin and the reddish-yellow stains on the letter also support this deduction. The content of the letter can be summarised by the fact that the magecraft that Melvin used to check on shirou was usable in another way to detect the accurate age of the person it was used on.

So the tunner did some calculations and deduced that Shirou`s accurate birth date was 20th October. Understanding this shirou put aside the attached reports that Melvin had sent and thought

He took a trip down memory lane as he reminisced what he was doing on 20th October of this year. That week shirou had taken the whole week as another leave of absence much to the displeasure of his homeroom teacher. Kiritsugu had drilled a lot of compiled theories on wilderness survival and forest terrain.

To test his mettle the magus killer had dropped him off in the middle of the forest with the instruction to survive for 1 week. Shirou had most of his combat supplies as well as form-fitting armour that he himself had chosen.

Shirou was very impressed by the clothes that the embers of the church used, it was understandable that magi the people focused on research and not combat hence they did not have any go-to armour and he never had met any combat-specialised magus. Even tho he was a smith his choice of armour was leather or any other flexible material rather than metal.

Hence, he was wearing armour made from a mixture of kevlar and bulletproof mess with carbon fibre pieces covering the vital areas for protection. shirou spent the first few days with relative ease using the knowledge he learnt. Hunting small animals gathering fruits and using trees as shelter.

The thing that stuck with him was that on the morning of September 20th, he climbed down the tree and went to urinate. While doing his work, the boy sensed something off, and concentrating on the sixth sense he was gifted with, he determined something was stalking him. Being in a forest he concluded the observer to be a predator of some sort.

Shirou had put a basic bounded field over the area but somehow something dangerous had come to the border of the ward. Sliding his legs as he took the stance he slightly drew the blade out of the saya. As soon as the blade was drawn the look in the boy`s eyes somewhat dulled or rather it appeared more muted, this was the result of his meditation and self-hypnosis.

From his left, a sudden moment occurred and a gray-furred wolf jumped at him, following the attack of the 1st wolf 2more jumped from the right and front. The wolves looked malnourished and weak, the one that attacked from the front had an injured leg making it relatively slow.

The hazy glow of magic circuits flashed in an instant across the body of the young swordsman, flooding his body with mana he jumped towards the front side, the blade drank in the magic of welder and reddish black patterns of circuits flashed on it before fading. Still, if you look at the edge of the blade from an angle the edge and portion of the hamon were releasing faint red light.

Shirou tilted his body towards the left and passed by the injured side of the wolf which made the predator unable to move. As the wolves were stabilising themselves from the jump he drew his pistol from the holster and the magic circuits on his arms glowed as he shot 3 shots into the face of the rightmost assailant.

The injured wolf that he passed by was the unluckiest, the katana had drawn a line across the body of the beast, and the injury itself was not fatal but minuscule flecks of light clung onto the wound and were indiferentiable from the blood. Beasts possess remarkably lower resistance to spells as they lack any magic circuits and an injured beast is another matter.

(A/N: I had to rewrite this part a lot as at 1st I fast-forwarded a lot and was about to kill kiritsugu. But then I remembered that I left a few plot points as I was reading my notes again.

I had left some major interactions between characters, and some introductions. Shirou learning to use time alter and reinforcement. Then I also didn't set some plot in motion and i recently came across the birthday of shirou so I decided to include it too as it wouldn't make sense if he didn't know that as magecraft also includes the astronomy parts.

And kiritsugu is being an ideal father throwing his kids to wolves.
