Chapter 1 - Intrusion and Intrigue.

Aisling took a deep breath, letting the fresh air fill her lungs. It had been nearly a year since she last let her wolf spirit roam through the whispering pines forest, and a year since she lost her mate. Stepping outside, she embraced the solitude of nature and was hit by the epiphany that an entire year had slipped by. She started to grasp her role in the vast tapestry of life. Despite enduring heartbreak, life had continued.

The birds still chirped melodiously, the ancient trees still reached for the sun, butterflies still danced around the pale violets by the stream, and the stream itself flowed into a brook, which widened into a river that eventually emptied into Spirit Lake. For the first time in a year, she allowed herself to feel something other than sorrow.

Her hair had come loose from its band as she ran under a low branch in the expansive forest. She had forgotten the exhilaration of running in her wolf form, the wind tangling her blazing mane. For a brief moment, she let go of her sadness and reveled in the cool, green tranquility of the forest. When she arrived at Spirit Lake, the water was so enticing that she couldn't resist transforming back into her human form and diving in. The water was the perfect temperature, and it felt so comforting that she swam and sunbathed, letting the water heal her grieving heart.

As she floated on her back, her thoughts wandered back to the past year. The responsibility of leading the Blazemane Pack had weighed heavily on her since Aiden's passing. Her sorrow had rendered her incapable of leading the pack effectively, so she had handed over her leadership role to her younger brother-in-law, Liam. While Liam assumed the role of Alpha, Aisling offered advice and protection, her strength and dominance easing the burden for the young Alpha.

Fenrir had been traveling for days, his wolf form allowing him to cover vast distances with ease. His journey had taken him through dense forests, across towering mountains, and now, he found himself on the outskirts of a sprawling forest. He could sense the presence of another wolf nearby, a strong and dominant one. Intrigued, he decided to investigate. As he moved closer, he could feel the other wolf's aura, a palpable force of dominance and warning. It was a feeling he hadn't experienced in a long time, and it stirred something within him. He was drawn to it, like a moth to a flame.

He moved stealthily through the forest, his senses heightened. He could hear the rustling of leaves, the chirping of birds, and the distant sound of water. He followed the sound, his curiosity piqued. As he neared the source, he saw a lake, its surface shimmering under the sunlight. And there, in the water, was the most beautiful sight he had ever seen. A she wolf in her human form. Her red hair spread out around her like a fiery halo, floated on her back. Her body was lithe and strong, her skin glowing under the sun. She was the source of the powerful aura he had sensed earlier. He realized then that she was not just any wolf, but an alpha luna such were hard to come by nowadays.

He watched her from the bushes, captivated by her beauty and the strength she radiated through her aura, any other wolf would have been suppressed into submission due to it. He knew he should announce his presence, but he was reluctant to disturb her solitude. He wanted to observe her a little longer; to enjoy the stunning view she blessed him with. Suddenly, she became alert, her head turning in his direction. He cursed under his breath, realizing he had been caught.

A sudden rustling in the bushes sharpened Aisling's alertness. She quickly became watchful and submerged herself in the water, keeping only her head above the surface. "Who's there?" she growled. "How dare you invade my privacy?"

Fenrir cursed his misfortune at being discovered while spying. Yet, he chose to reveal himself boldly. Emerging from the bushes, he displayed his towering stature. Observing her eyes widen, a smirk played on his lips in response to her astonishment. Aware of his intrusion, he found himself drawn to her, captivated by an allure that urged him to close the distance. His inner wolf, too, was agitated, sharing his eagerness for their encounter.

When his massive form came into view. Seeing his size and his obvious lustful gaze, Aisling was incensed. "Have you no decency? Turn around at once and let me dress!" she demanded.

"Apologies, love, I thought you were a rogue and had to check, although I must admit I'm glad I did," Fenrir replied, amusement evident in his voice.

"Turn around this instant or I swear I will make you regret it despite your size!" she snapped. His eyes widened at her remark but not wanting to provoke her further, he raised his hands in surrender and turned around. Aisling quickly got out of the water, accessed her storage enchanted storage ring, pulled out a dark colored mourning dress, and hastily got dressed. Once she was clothed, she demanded to know his identity.

Fenrir was taken aback to see her in such a dreadful outfit and chose not to introduce himself, especially since it was clear she didn't recognize him. "My identity is not important at the moment, but I am intrigued by you. I must say, that outfit does you no justice. I liked your previous state better," he said, smirking.

"What a brazen man!" she exclaimed. "My identity is none of your business either. What are you doing in my territory?" Fenrir turned back around, still smirking. "I was traveling and needed a rest. Your lake seemed like the perfect spot," he explained, his eyes taking her in with interest.

"Well, you're not welcomed. Leave now," Aisling commanded, standing tall despite her lingering vulnerability. Fenrir's expression turned serious. "I don't think I'll be leaving just yet. You see, I've been I'm on an important mission, and I have a feeling it I will be staying in your territory longer," he said, his words cryptic.

Aisling's eyes narrowed. "And what exactly are you here for?"

Fenrir moved closer, his towering figure intimidating yet strangely attractive. "That my dear is confidential, perhaps later when we are well acquainted, I can tell you."

Aisling's heart pounded, but she had already wasted enough time with this stranger. She turned to leave, but Fenrir's hand shot out, gently holding her arm. "Wait, we've just met and you're already leaving? At least tell me your name."

Aisling's fangs extended and she released her aura, a tangible display of dominance and warning. "Let go of me if you want to keep your hand," she growled.

Seeing her reaction, Fenrir chuckled. "Feisty, I like that! I must say, you are a very beautiful woman but wearing such an ugly dress does nothing for your beauty."

Aisling's eyes flashed defiantly. "That's exactly why I'm wearing it, to keep lustful men like you at a distance!" Fenrir's grin widened, his eyes twinkling with amusement. "A smart strategy, but I'm afraid it won't work on me, love, especially after knowing what is being hidden beneath."

"You are out of line! How outrageous!" she retorted while scratching him with his claws, but it was like scratching a marble wall. "I demand that you let me go immediately!"

Fenrir's smile faded slightly, replaced by a look of genuine interest. "Alright, I'll let you go for now, but rest assured this will not be the last time we see each other. You've piqued my interest, and I don't think I'll be leaving until I've satisfied my curiosity."

Aisling's pulse quickened, a mix of anger and unexpected excitement. She didn't trust him, but there was something about his presence that stirred her in a way she hadn't felt in a long time.

"Stay out of my way," she warned, turning to leave.

"Don't worry, love. I'll see you soon," Fenrir called after her, his voice a promise of future encounters. As he watched her walk away, he couldn't help but feel a sense of anticipation. As Aisling walked away, she couldn't shake the feeling that her life had just become infinitely more complicated.
