Chapter 5 - Chapter 4

Several more weeks had passed in the joyful embrace of the baron's family, but all good things must come to an end. The day of Alice's departure had arrived, and the atmosphere in the household was a mix of pride, excitement, and a touch of melancholy.

Alice stood resolute by the side of a waiting wagon, a vehicle dispatched directly from the academy to transport her on her journey. Her family had gathered around to bid her farewell, their expressions a blend of pride in her achievements and the sadness of parting.

The baron, her father, placed a hand on her shoulder, his gaze filled with paternal warmth and a hint of sadness. He spoke with a voice choked with emotion, "My dear Alice, you've grown into a remarkable young woman. We couldn't be prouder of you. Your mother and I will miss you terribly, but we know you're destined for greatness."

Alice smiled at her father, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. Her mother, too, held back tears as she embraced her daughter tightly, whispering words of love and encouragement.

Ethan and Rodrigo, her faithful brothers, stood by her side, their support unwavering. Rodrigo offered a heartfelt nod, conveying his confidence in her abilities and his pride in her accomplishments. Ethan, while struggling to hold back tears, managed to muster a cheerful grin.

As Alice climbed into the waiting wagon, her father, the Baron, approached her with a modestly-sized gift in hand. He presented it to his daughter, explaining its contents with a touch of nostalgia and hope.

"This gift contains an egg," the Baron began, his voice carrying a sense of reverence for the object. "I don't know whose egg it is, as it was something my father gave me when I was your age. I wasn't able to hatch it even after five decades, but you might be able to. Do remember, it will help you in the future, so take care of it."

Alice accepted the gift with a mix of curiosity and gratitude, holding it with care as she listened to her father's words. She understood the significance of the mysterious egg and the trust her father had placed in her.

After their brief exchange, the Baron bid his daughter farewell and closed the door of the wagon. As the vehicle began to move, carrying Alice away from her family and toward the northern direction where the academy awaited, she couldn't help but reflect on the weight of her father's words and the unknown future the egg represented.

The academy that lay ahead was not just a place of learning; it was a sprawling town dedicated to education and knowledge. With numerous branches offering a wide array of disciplines, Alice had yet to decide which path she would choose. However, one thing was clear in her mind: it wouldn't be anything resembling the scholarly pursuits to which her younger brother Rodrigo was so dedicated. She had witnessed the hours he spent engrossed in books, particularly in the study of alchemy, and it had done little to inspire her in that direction. Alice was determined to chart her course, one that would allow her to make her mark in a way that felt right for her.

The journey to the academy town was a long and winding one, spanning several hours. As the wagon carried Alice northward, the landscape gradually transformed from the familiar countryside around Burnsley to a more bustling and densely populated region. The road became wider, and the air seemed to buzz with anticipation.

Finally, as the sun began its descent towards the horizon, the wagon entered the outskirts of the academy town. Alice peered out of the window, taking in the sights of her new home for the foreseeable future.

The academy town was a sprawling expanse of architectural wonder. Grand buildings, some ancient and others more modern, towered over cobblestone streets. Each building represented a branch of the academy, dedicated to a specific area of study. Towers with observatories loomed tall, while alchemical laboratories bustled with activity. Gardens filled with exotic flora were interspersed with open plazas where students congregated.

As the wagon navigated the town's streets, Alice couldn't help but be captivated by the scene outside. Students from all walks of life bustled about, each clad in attire denoting their chosen fields of study. Some wore elegant robes adorned with mystical symbols, while others sported more practical uniforms for hands-on work.

The academy town was a microcosm of knowledge, a place where scholars and students from various disciplines converged to pursue their passions. It was a bustling hive of intellectual activity, a vibrant tapestry of ambition and curiosity.

As Alice's wagon came to a stop in front of the main academy building, she took a deep breath, feeling a mixture of excitement and nervousness.

Alice's timing was nearly perfect as she arrived at the academy town, where the orientation ceremony was on the verge of commencing. In this unique town, there was no concept of private property, and all dormitories were assigned based on the class of the student.

This event held immense significance for every newcomer to the academy. It was not only an introduction to the institution but also an opportunity to make a critical decision about their future education. At the ceremony, students would choose one of the academy's various branches, which would determine their course of study for the next five years.

The main building of the academy stood as an imposing architectural marvel. Its grand façade featured a blend of classic and contemporary design elements, with towering columns and intricate stone carvings that hinted at the institution's rich history. The building's facade was adorned with ivy and climbing roses, giving it a sense of timeless elegance. As students and faculty bustled in and out, the main entrance served as a hub of activity.

As Alice made her way towards the entrance, she spotted her friend, Emily. Emily was the daughter of a neighboring baron and had quickly become a close friend of Alice's through the visits they paid to each other's homes. Her vibrant red hair and freckled complexion were easily recognizable in the crowd.

Emily was surrounded by a small group of people, all of whom were new students like Alice, arriving for the orientation ceremony. Alice approached the group.

"Emily!" Alice called out, relieved to have found a familiar face amidst the bustling crowd.

Emily turned toward alice; her face lit up with a welcoming smile as she saw her friend. "Alice! I was hoping I'd see you here. Come meet the others!" emily gestured to the group she was with.

As Alice joined the circle, emily began introductions. "This is Alice Addison, my dear friend and neighbor. Alice, these are some of the new students I've met today. This is Thomas, Marianne, and Richard."

Thomas, a tall and bespectacled young man, greeted Alice with a friendly nod. Marianne, with her curly auburn hair, offered a warm smile, and Richard, a somewhat reserved young man, gave a polite nod. Alice returned their greetings with a smile

As Alice and her friends engaged in lively conversation, the area near the academy entrance continued to fill with new students arriving in a series of wagons. Laughter and chatter filled the air as these newcomers joined groups of friends, acquaintances, and fellow students, sharing their excitement and anticipation for the orientation ceremony.

Emily was sharing a captivating story when a sudden hush fell over the crowd. Conversations came to an abrupt halt, and the once-bustling area turned eerily silent. The stark contrast was palpable, leaving Alice bewildered by the sudden stillness that had fallen upon them.

Amidst the silence, the unmistakable sound of a wagon's approach became apparent. Alice, perplexed by the sudden change in atmosphere, turned her gaze toward the entrance to see what had caused the disruption.

The opulent and imposing wagon had come to a grand halt before the academy entrance, flanked by two equally lavish carriages, creating a spectacle that drew the attention of all present. From the first wagon descended a butler, the embodiment of elegance and precision in his attire and movements. His purpose was clear as he made his way toward the second wagon.

With meticulous care, the butler positioned a movable staircase near the door of the second wagon, ensuring that its occupants would not disembark directly onto the ground. It was a gesture of reverence for the occupants within.

As the butler swung open the door of the wagon, the collective gaze of the onlookers was fixed upon the emerging figures. Stepping down from the wagon were two men and a woman, all dressed in attire that spoke of privilege and nobility.

The crowd instinctively created a path for them, parting to allow their regal passage toward the entrance of the academy. Among the trio, the identities became clear: the woman was the daughter of Duke Ronan, the man next to her was the son of Commander Green, and the third individual was none other than the third prince of the empire.

Their presence was a testament to their status and significance in the empire. As they ascended the staircase, an aura of authority and prestige surrounded them, leaving no doubt as to their place in the hierarchy of the academy and the realm itself.

The trio, wrapped in an aura of arrogance, proceeded into the academy building without pausing to acknowledge the people who had respectfully made way for them. Their confident strides took them around a corner, out of sight from the curious onlookers.

As they disappeared from view, a loud and commanding announcement echoed through the entrance area, ensuring that all present could hear it. The voice carried an air of authority, making it clear that this was an order not to be ignored.

"All students are hereby ordered to gather inside the main hall," the announcement proclaimed. "You can find it by taking the first right turn. Everyone is expected to be there within ten minutes, as the ceremony will commence shortly."

The announcement sent a ripple of activity through the crowd. Students, faculty, and newcomers alike swiftly began to make their way toward the main hall, heeding the call to assemble for the highly anticipated orientation ceremony. Time was of the essence, and the academy awaited its grand welcome and the unveiling of new paths for its students.
