Chereads / A Sirens Cry / Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

I couldn't believe what I was looking at. A tall, slender, pale.... thing, clawing at the still body of one of my classmates. Whatever it was, it was tall, almost 7 feet it seemed. It towered over the students that were running away from it before crouching down to scratch and gnaw away at the corpse. It had long monster-like claws and teeth resembling that of a shark.

It was eating the body, a horrifying sight. I was in shock and on top of that, I couldn't hear. Whatever that noise was took away my hearing and I have no idea for how long. I had so many questions going through my head. What is that thing? How did it get here? It wasn't here a second ago. What the fuck is going on? Will I be deaf forever?

All of this was running rampant through my mind when Gavin snapped me out of my shocked state. He was talking to me, but I couldn't hear what he was saying. Although, I could tell what he was trying to say. "We need to leave, NOW!"

I felt something grab at my shoulder. In fear, I whipped my head around to see what horrifying monster was about to kill me. Instant relief overcame me once I saw it was Daniel. He was already on his feet when I saw him, and he tried to pull me up onto mine. As I got up, I looked back at the monster out of worry. It was looking right back at me, with soulless white eyes that pierced right through me.

All three of us got up and bolted down the bleacher steps and towards the secondary exit on the opposite side of the doors we came in. I'm sprinting as fast as I can when in the corner of my eye, I see another monster. I turned my head towards the beast. It looks very similar to the one before, only this one looks stocky and is a little shorter. It was eating the corpses of other students, not acknowledging or even caring about the chaos it has caused.

There were two of these things in here, and who knows how many others, but this wasn't the right time to think about that. With more corpses scattered around the auditorium, we knew we had to get out of there, or we would be next.

A horde of students bursted through the doors, many of them being trampled by others. Once we were outside, I got the attention of both Gavin and Daniel and I waved my keys in their faces and ushered them to follow me to my car. Neither of them drive to school because there is a bus stop right near their houses. My car was parked on the other side of the building, but it didn't matter, we knew that my car would be safer than being outside.

As we ran, the world around us seemed to be in just as much chaos as it was inside. There were people running around rampant, cars speeding down the streets, and more of those.... things chasing the people running. Each of them looked very similar to one another, with minor differences in their size, height, and shape. One of them, however, was hunched over and resembled a dog more than it did a person. Whatever is happening, it's bad.... really bad.

Almost to the car, I noticed that my hearing started coming back, even if only by a miniscule amount. I couldn't fully hear and everything was muffled, but hearing again became a possibility in my mind. With the car in sight, I pulled the car keys from my pocket and ran into the car cushioning the impact with my arms and hands. I didn't dare slow down because I felt as if my life depended on it.

We all threw ourselves in and I started the car. I put it in reverse and whipped the car around to face the parking lot exit. I'm about to put the car in drive, but something grabs my attention before I'm able to. Standing not 30 feet from the front of the car, is the very same monster that appeared next to us in the school. Covered in blood and breathing heavily with what looked like rage, it started charging at us at full speed.

I sped backwards around the parking lot hoping to lose it. I turned car to the left back-hand side of the car, hoping to get out of the lot when a car pulled up behind us. The back of my car crashed directly into the side of the other vehicle. That thing rammed into the front of the car and started hitting at the windshield.

With the windshield almost completely shattered and the monster about to break through, I put the car into drive and started flooring the gas. After a few seconds, I slammed on the brakes and it went flying off of the hood and into a parked car, as did the windshield. I hit the gas again and drove right into it, crushing it's legs between the two vehicles.

Unable to move away, it started to claw and scratch towards us to no avail. Once again, I put the car into reverse to back out of the now crippled monster. I take one last good look at it and my attention is immediately drawn to it's arm. I didn't notice it before with everything happening but now that I'm looking at it, it's so clear. On its forearm, was a flower that made me think about the sickly girl earlier.

My heart sank at the thought of it. It couldn't be her. It's impossible, how could she turn into that?! I didn't want to think about it. I didn't want to believe what I was seeing. My brain tried to come up with any excuse as to why it had her tattoo. I was searching for any logical reason because I just couldn't bear the apparent reality.

Once I pulled away, it immediately fell to the floor. It started crawling towards the car with its legs dragging behind. I turned out of the parking lot as fast as I could and sped away from the school. Looking up at the rear view mirror, I saw it's pathetic attempt at chasing us. It's legs were useless and all it could do was claw at the ground.

Part of me was relieved and part of me felt confused. However, most of me felt pity for it.
