Chapter 15 - Dance

Chapter Fifteen: Dance

The other students laughed their heads out at Layla's troubles as they didn't view it as anything worrying, Nephis and Alez were the only exceptions.

A student, Tomah, ran towards Layla, hoping he'd be blessed by a flash of something underneath her skirt but he got pulled back by the hair by Nero. The teacher snapped his fingers and the force of the void reduced.

After a long scream, Layla stopped being pulled by the void and fell down. The edge of her skirt was high but only flashing her thighs. Her breaths were heavy and her life had flashed before her eyes four times already.

Zenith sighed, and snapped his fingers again. The void dispersed and Lilian felt a huge load lifted off her shoulders.

It remained only one student left to try a long ranged attack before those three came in. In Class 11-B, there were two students who didn't had combative abilities.

Layla Herbert who had Healing Magic and no Element, and Dexter Esther whose details hadn't been updated as she arrived this term.

"Nephis, will you try— right, Alexandria, you are next, right?" Zenith pointed at him.

The boy had been dodging being pointed and Zenith could only guess he wanted to be one of the last acts so he could steal the spotlight and to leave an iconic image at the end, which fit how dramatic he acted.

But Alexandria turned from the teacher to Nephis and stepped back. "No worries, she can go first."

Kawaya and some other boys snickered, as he gave his chance to Nephis. Zenith didn't expect it but assumed Alexandria wanted to be the very last.

Nephis stepped forward but first, helped Layla off the ground where she looked drained. "You said I should stop embarrassing myself earlier so what were you doing?" She clicked her tongue.

The void's force was low and easy to move out from so it's either her friend lost her sense of balance and went along with it or she had only been acting weak.

Actually, Layla didn't even wait to realize that the void's force was weak and only panicked when she noticed it stopped her movement.

Nephis pushed Layla to Nero. "Take care of her." She cracked her knuckles and elbows. "So long ranged attack, eh? Let's do this."

From Zenith's book where he had documented the students' major element or magic descriptions and how good they were with it, the only ones that impressed him best were those backbenchers.

He made a mental note to pay more attention to them, after all, they had a 'forbidden use' stamp on them which meant they couldn't use their magic and abilities for personal use around the school.

He looked up when Nephis came to him with a proud look. "Do you want me to give you a distance to hit?"

She nodded, sure of herself.

Zenith gestured the students to move aside, and the class moved to the wall. Nephis' proud look faded. Was he going to tell her to launch away from the field? A smirk spread to her face. "Sure. Sure."

Zenith stepped back as she understood. He'd already been impressed by the backbenchers, so even if she couldn't do it, it'd hardly affect his mood.

"No, Zenith, you shouldn't teach based on your mood." He said to himself as he jotted it down on a separate personal journal.

Teaching shouldn't be one of the things he should do based on his mood or he else he'd skip classes whenever the students disappoint him.

At least, he should do one proper term with them before calling it quits.

As he wrote, the air around the field became breezy and wet. He looked up and found a gentle tornadic waterspout formed above Nephis' head. The gentle part impressed him. If she could control the mood of her water particles, that made her definitely C-Rank.

The students moved farther towards the wall as the small waterspout circled around Nephis and kept growing and they wondered how far she'd be shooting and if she could even shoot such amount of water for so long.

It grew to a minor disastrous level and Zenith raised his hand to stop her. Nephis raised her hand above her head and the waterspout stopped growing.

Zenith left her. The distance she aimed for was greater than what he gave her, but could she shoot it constantly for such distance?

Before he finished thinking, Nephis's folded hand pointed at the wall were a metallic board stood as target footballers. It was past the field but still safe to launch. "Now… Dance."

The waterspout circled around her one more time before rushing towards the metallic board with great speed, eating the ground. It moved in slithering motion like it danced to unknown music.

Most Class 11-B students kept yelling in surprise as the waterspout charged towards the metallic board. It didn't lose its shape or become suddenly violent. It was obedient, like an animal going to fetch a stick.

Lilian in particular had gotten over the accident during her practical session, and kept yelling, "Water Goddess! Water Goddess!" as the hyper she was.

Zenith found this hilarious but also smart. Nephis knew she didn't have the stamina to shoot a minor disastrous level waterspout out to the metallic board for long so she moved it towards the board wholly.

Moving it might seem like it had less effect but as it moved, it grew slightly with the air around it and if it were a living opponent, it'd knock them out even better than shooting water would do.

Also the waterspout moved quickly so it wouldn't exert her strength. At the end of the day, a long ranged attack had been done.

The waterspout slammed at the metallic board, almost ripping it apart. Nephis lowered her arm and the waterspout dispersed. She folded her arms, to hide how tired she felt after that demonstration.

Class 11-B stood frozen when the waterspout threat disappeared, then they began cheering and running towards Nephis. A proud smirk was on her face as she turned to Sir Zenith. "So? I hit your mark and over."

Zenith nodded to it, while rapidly writing on his note. He appreciated that no accident happened at this session. "That's an impressive display but also note that if it had grown further, another dramatic display would've happened."

Layla knew Sir Zenith spoke about her screams when Lilian's void nearly sucking her in when he said 'dramatic display'.

Tomah laughed and she nudged his sides, sulking a bit. She stared at the teacher and noticed the obvious impressed look on his face.

She looked at her palm and felt conflicted. She didn't have combative abilities so she could never impress him like that. She sighed. "There's really no way for me to clear my name except by healing… yes."

"If only someone would have a little accident now—" she paused when she realized what she wished for.

A hand wrapped on her shoulders. "Is that what you want? A little accident?"

She frowned on seeing Alexandria Feloncia. "N-Not really. Don't do anything stupid."

"Okay, but I can't help it. My element is a bad matchup with Nephis's so there's bound to be accident. Look forward to it." He said as he ran to Sir Zenith for his own act.
