Chapter 14 - Chapter 14 - Versatile Thoughts and Actions

JASMINE

It had been three days since I last went to school and I didn't know why. The door to my cell had not been opened since the last day I got back from school, the day the Alpha's son and the Beta's son almost got into an altercation because of me.

I would be naive if I said I didn't know that it was all because of that I was locked up with no food, water or even the visit of the guards to take me to the laboratory. Now was the first time I felt peace that I knew that something worse was coming. There was never peace and there was never going to a day that I could feel well, it would always be torture upon torture and this I knew quite well.

The dungeon was quiet. Many of the prisoners were teenagers like myself who had to go to school . I knew they did not forget that I had to go to school. It was a purposeful act that they left me here. The other prisoners had been forced out to work or do something concerning the pack and since I was not with them or busy doing any other work they had still let me do two days ago and yesterday, I had the opportunity to take in the appearance of the dungeon quite well.

The cells were built close to each other and the doors were strong enough and already laced with silver so it was not even possible for the strongest wolf to tear it down. It was almost an impossible act because of the silver it was laced with.

I had always known that whoever had discovered that about werewolves and decided to make it a public thing probably wanted to of course harm to werewolves in the first place.

My heart was empty and it was even hard to think about Finn. All I wanted was to be out of the dungeon and out of the pack for good.

I had promised myself that the day I set my foot outside the pack, I was never going to be back here for any reason whatsoever, irrespective of what it was.

Nobody in the pack was nice enough to make me want to come back and that was it. "It gets better, it gets better and it's very soon." I heard something and turned around to see if anyone actually said that but there was no one.

"Sera?" I called but there was no response. It made me wonder if I did not recognize her voice anymore or if it was my own head.

I believed Sera was dead. After what happened with the "green eyes", I had never heard from her again. And if there were no definite methods to permanently kill the wolf of a werewolf, I was sure that all the experiments they had been carrying out on me was just enough to kill her and go beyond suppressing her.

I took my mind off it. There was no way it was Sera and there was no way it could be her even in a few years.

The conference room was as quiet as I remembered it to always be. My father was never one for noise or rather, I don't remember him as one although there are some memories from when I was younger that I remember the place being full and lively.

Now, many of the pack members communicated through the link and even their mobile phones when there was the need to. Unless there was an urgent or important discussion, the conference room had been limited to the use of my father and I.

"I gave you a few days and even added extra. I expect that you will come here with good news today." Alpha Sullivan said.

My father was usually a man of his words and he never turned back on them. I didn't know how to tell him I had not found my mate. No one had ever had it that difficult in the pack which made it all funnier since I was the Alpha's son and was to have it the easiest of everyone.

"Please, Dad. I am trying my best but I have not found her yet."

"Please, Nathan. I need you to try harder." It was the first time I was seeing him at the edge of tears instead of the usual shouting he always resorted to in cases like this which was more often than I would have loved it to be. "The coronation is supposed to be held only a few months from now and you ought to have found your mate before then."

"Can't I just find my mate after I become the Alpha? Why is it a necessity? What does it change?"

My father sighed. "Having Luna signifies many things but most importantly, it's because of the people you are going to be ruling. They need to know they are in good hands when they see how well you treat your Luna and you know, the people trust you when they see evidence."

I agreed with him this one time and I could not argue.

"Dad, I am trying. It's not just working. Nothing I do or try is working."

"Listen, I understand but trust me, it's easier than you think. Look at Finn, Look at Joe, Look and Ian and many of those you grew up together. How hard can it possibly be?"

"Dad, okay. I understand you. I'll work harder on it." I knew there was nothing more I was going to do than what I was already doing but there was no point telling him that if it was going to break him especially now that we were talking like civilized people for the first time.

He sat down and motioned me to sit opposite him. "I called you to discuss some things concerning our alliances with other packs. I think they need to be reviewed. We are more on the unfavorable end and some packs are taking advantage of us through it. I know you are versatile in topics like this which is why I am sharing with you."

"Let's see what we got."
