The echo of the crowd still resonated in the arena as Ethan approached Thaiel, a satisfied smile playing on his lips. Thaiel, drenched in sweat and still recovering from the exhaustion of the fight, felt a mix of pride and frustration when he saw Ethan. Although he was his leader, Thaiel couldn't help but see him as a rival as well.
"Good job out there, Thaiel," Ethan said, patting his companion on the shoulder. "That new ability, the 'Lightning Cloak,' is impressive. You've come a long way."
Thaiel tensed slightly at Ethan's words. Though the compliments were well-intentioned, Thaiel couldn't help but feel there was something condescending in them. After all, he had always seen Ethan as the goal to surpass, and receiving a compliment from him made him feel like he was being mocked.
"Thanks," Thaiel replied, trying to maintain his composure. "But I still have a lot to improve."
