Luke pushed open the door of the nearest tavern, stepping into the dimly lit space filled with the murmur of voices and the clinking of mugs. The scent of ale and roasted meat wafted through the air, familiar and comforting, but his focus was elsewhere. He remembered what Malena had told him—that there were people in places like this who might take on travellers for a price. It wasn't the most reliable option, but it was better than waiting for Mayor Valen to return.
He scanned the room, hoping to spot a taskboard where people advertised their services. Maybe he could strike a deal if he could find someone heading to Virencia. And if money was the only thing standing in his way, Luke didn't mind parting with some of the coins he had left. It was a small price to pay if it meant moving forward.
