As the carriage rolled up to the grand gates of Esbakan, the group was greeted by the sight of heavily armoured guards standing watch. Their stern expressions and poised stances made it clear that entry into the city was not taken lightly. Being a familiar face, the rider waved at the guards as they approached, expecting the usual nod of recognition that would allow him to pass through without delay. However, as Luke and Ilyrana, travellers with no ties to Esbakan, came into view, the guards stiffened and stepped forward.
"Halt," one of the guards commanded, raising a hand to stop the carriage. The rider pulled on the reins, bringing the tigers to a slow stop. He nodded to the guards, already preparing to vouch for his companions.
"This city is home for me," the rider explained. "And these two are just travellers I picked up along the way. No trouble here, just passing through."
