The morning light streamed through the small window of the lodge room, casting a soft glow on the wooden floor. Luke stirred, slowly waking from a surprisingly restful sleep. He blinked a few times, adjusting to the dim light, and noticed that Karrigan was still asleep beside him, his deep breathing steady and peaceful.
Luke carefully slipped out of bed, trying not to disturb his friend. He dressed quietly, his mind already planning out the day ahead. There was much to do, but first, he needed to eat and gather his thoughts. He strapped on his light armour, leaving his heavier robe behind, and stepped out of the room.
Walking down the hallway, he passed the door to the room where Ilyrana was staying. For a moment, he hesitated, his hand hovering near the doorknob. The pull to check on her was strong, almost instinctive, but he resisted. She was probably still asleep, and the last thing he wanted was to intrude on her privacy.
