Shesha moved swiftly down the stone corridor, her steps muffled by the finely woven rugs that lined the floor. Her mind raced as she considered her next move. The face of the cook was etched into her memory, a sly elf with darting eyes who seemed to carry a cloud of unease wherever he went. Yet, knowing who he was and exposing him were two very different challenges. After all, she was only a maid bound by tasks and expectations that left little room for deviation.
Her fingers brushed the edges of her apron as she turned a corner, heading toward the maid's quarters. She needed a way to alter her assigned duties. Though she had been lucky enough to help during breakfast preparations, her usual tasks kept her far from the kitchen. She had to find a way in—regularly—without raising suspicion.
