Arlo was jolted awake by a rough hand on his shoulder. He blinked, disoriented. As he was dragged from his bed and into the frigid night air he cussed. A burly warrior, his face etched with worry, hurried him towards the royal chambers.
When he entered into the room, Arlo was hit by the smell of blood and sex. He found Kael looking frantic on the bed, cradling Naiari in his arms. Her face was pale, her breathing shallow. Kael's eyes were wide with fear.
"What happened?" Arlo demanded, his voice sharp as he came closer to the couple and examined Naiari, fearing some tragedy.
"She is not waking up," Kael replied, his voice trembling. "I don't know what to do."
Arlo checked her neck and saw that the puncture wounds were no longer bleeding even though they looked fresh then he straightened up and rolled his eyes.
"Did you really wake me up in the middle of the night for this?" Arlo asked, his voice annoyed.
