"See you all tomorrow." Samara said as she waved at some of her co-workers.
Theo waited for her by the café door and she quickly headed over to him once she had said her goodbyes. The two soon headed out into the city.
Dusk was approaching and it had become much more crowded on the streets as everyone made their way home for the night. The amount of people around surprised Theo a little. He had never seen so many living in one city.
Not even in the capital cities back home.
"Do you want to grab some stuff before we head to the motel?" Samara asked as they walked. "Any essentials like food and toiletries?"
"I don't mind doing that…" Theo said before pausing for a moment.
After the incident with the woman earlier, Theo had thought about whether he was ready to go into this world with his limited knowledge.
And while, he didn't want to impose on Samara, Theo felt he would need a little more help before he headed out on his own. However, he was the one to bring up staying somewhere else and now he wanted to change those plans…
Theo was conflicted by it, not sure if he should voice his thoughts.
"Is something the matter?" Samara asked, seeming to sense the internal conflict within Theo.
"I… eh…" Theo took a deep breath, deciding to just go for it. "I was wondering if I could stay at your apartment a little longer. At least until I get a better understanding of this world… Of course, if you don't want to do that-"
"It's fine. I get it." Samara smiled. "You can stay as long as you like but I do have one condition."
"What is it?" Theo asked quickly, wondering what it could be.
He was taken aback a little by the sudden addition of a condition but Theo was willing to hear it out as long as it was reasonable. He could always go back to the motel plan if he didn't agree with it.
"We'll need to make house rules that both of us can agree to." Samara stated. "That way it'll be easier to live together as roommates… Oh, roommates are people who share the same living arrangements and aren't related."
"I see…" Theo mused.
The condition wasn't a bad idea and Theo could see how useful having common rules would be if they were to live together. He had spent many nights sharing inn rooms with his fellow knights so if this was going to be a long term thing, rules were important.
Of course, he'd probably have his life in order within a few months at most. He just needed to understand how things worked here and figure out what he was going to do with himself.
"I think house rules will be fine." Theo stated. "Do you have any in mind?"
"I have a few but we can talk it out when we get to the apartment." Samara replied. "For now, we should head to the shops to grab your stuff before they close. I think we have an hour left before most close for the day. You should also think of some… Huh?"
Samara frowned as she put a hand in her jacket pocket. She soon pulled out a small, black rectangular box similar to the one Theo had seen Maria hold the previous night.
Now that Theo thought about it, he noticed that a lot of people carried a similar rectangular box around, even if they were different in sizes and color.
"Sorry I have to take this…" Samara murmured as she put the box thing by her ear. "What's up? ... Yeah, I'm good… Okay sure… Really… Then what about Saturday?"
Theo watched Samara a little confused as to what was going on. It seemed she was having a conversation with someone but she was talking to the box.
Was it some kind of communication device?
It would explain why everyone had one but it didn't explain how such a thing would work in this world. It seemed impossible for such a communication device to exist without the help of magic.
Then again, he'd seen and read about many things that seemed to work without the help of magic or mages. He would definitely need to ask how this magical device worked.
"Okay see you then…" Samara said before she put the strange object away. She then turned to Theo. "That was Maria on the phone… I'll explain what it is later but it looks like you'll have to wait until the weekend to get some new clothes… Will that be okay?"
Theo didn't like the idea of having to wait longer for better fitting clothes but he didn't have much of a choice. It wasn't like he could just go to a tailor and have the clothes immediately.
Besides, it wasn't like the clothes he was borrowing were completely unwearable. They were mostly just tight on his body.
"It's fine." Theo sighed. "We can still get other things right?"
"Yeah…" Samara nodded before pointing at a store. "We'll get everything from that place."
Theo gazed at the store Samara had pointed out. It seemed quite interesting with a sign made of colorful lights, making him wonder what it sold.
And he didn't have to wait long as the two quickly crossed the street to head over to the store.
