Chapter 1 - New World

Jenkins had a blank expression on his face. He had only stayed up late, but he had traveled through time?

"Boy, it's time to bet on your luck."

Under the red and blue moon, the middle-aged man with the stubble on his face slapped the sweaty Jenkins Williamette against the dilapidated red brick wall and called out in a low voice. Beneath their feet was a dark, copper vapor pipe from which air was escaping. It was not known who would pay the extra pennies for this steam.

The young man still had an expressionless look on his face. The last time Bernard had seen that expression was when the priests sent by the sect were giving cultural lessons to everyone.

Helpless, the man could only repeat viciously once more:

"Kid, I will tell you again, the monster behind us has caught up with us, and we can only enter the [Mysterious Place] to try our luck. But you must know that not everyone can enter the [Mysterious Place], only those with extraordinary potential can, so you must put your life on the line!"

"Forget it."

Seeing that the young man in front of him was still expressionless, Bernard took a step back and turned towards the shadow approaching at the end of the alley.

"Remember, boy, if you die, the [Night and the Secret Church] will compensate your family; if you do not die and are lucky enough to become our companion, then I congratulate you for learning the true face of the world. I do not know what righteous God you believe in, but pray one last time."

"He is a member of the Church of Night and Mystery and believes in the Righteous God [Lightless Moon]?"

This information inexplicably jumped into Jenkins' mind.

On the other side, the middle-aged man grabbed Jenkins by the arm and slammed into the wall. Jenkins saw that at the corner of the alley, a two-story octopus with thick sucker tentacles was trying to squeeze its body into the wall.

The octopus with the dirty green suckers did not seem to have eyes, and the dirty garbage and sewage in the alley had fouled some of its tentacles. But just looking at it, Jenkins felt like his head was about to explode. "What the hell is that? An alien version of Cthulhu?"

It was as if he had walked through a thin layer of water, and an indescribably blinding white light flashed before his eyes. After it had all subsided, Jenkins knelt on the dusty marble floor, panting, while the middle-aged man at his side looked forward with a face full of relief.

In that passage of white light, that lasted only a moment but also seemed to last forever, Jenkins finally understood the current situation.

Jenkins Williamette, who lives on Privet Road in the Sabine District of Nolan City, is the second son of the Williamette family.

Today is a good day, and Jenkins has been out late into the night as usual. Just as he was about to make his way home, he was suddenly attacked by a monster that emerged from the ground. As he ran for his life, he prayed aloud for the blessing of the [Inheritance Sage]. Until he encountered Mr. Barnard, who used a "strange ray" to stop the monster for a moment, but the two were still stopped by the monster in an alley.

According to the memories Jenkins gained, the actual cause of his death was that he saw a pair of dark eyes hidden in the monster's tentacles. Now Jenkins recalled the few remaining images in his memory, and his soul seemed to ache.

The memories ended there, and Jenkins was immediately drawn to the three points of light and the three bubbles that appeared before him.

"Did you see those points of light?"

The middle-aged man at his side asked hesitantly, and Jenkins nodded.

"That's good, congratulations boy, the truth of the world is about to reveal itself to you. Do not worry, it's not horrible witchcraft, it's a supernatural power recognized by the church, but you have to report it."

As he said this, he helped Jenkins up, who was still sitting on the marble floor, and he discovered that the two of them, having "drilled' themselves into the wall, had apparently entered another room and were now in a dirty and greasy room.

It was probably a restaurant in an ordinary apartment building, and the dim candles on the round dining table barely lit the room. Jenkins could see the doors and windows nailed shut with short planks of wood, and the broken cupboard with a missing corner opposite the door. No one had been here for a long time, and even a small movement when getting up could kick up a lot of dust. The black leather boots Jenkins wore and the leather shoes on Barnard's feet instantly discolored.

The room here is not very big, and the most attractive thing is a figure in a black robe next to the round table.

"Time is short, I will introduce you briefly, do not interrupt me."

Barnard looked nervously at the black figure, swallowed his saliva and spoke quickly, regardless of whether Jenkins could hear clearly.

"The supernatural powers in the stories really exist in this world, they are the bedtime stories your mother may have told you. You do not need to doubt that now. Any lucky person who can awaken the power can see two [world gifts] at the beginning of awakening, yes, the two points of light in front of you."

One, two, three...

Maybe the number three does not even exist in this world?

Jenkins thought so, but in reality, he was just using this childish behavior to get rid of his nervousness. It was definitely not an illusion. The man dressed in black, who had been standing motionless next to the round table, seemed to be looking at him.

"These two points of light are the beginning of your extraordinary journey. Now tell me what color they are."

Three soybean-sized points of light in front of Jenkins were motionless, one white, one green and one purple. He did not know what that meant, but according to the general rule, the purple dot of light should be more valuable.

"White and green."

He said, looking Barnard frankly in the eye. At least he had not lied. That was indeed the color of his "two bright spots in front of him"

"Good luck."

Barnard nodded, turned his head again, glanced nervously at the black-robed man and said at a faster pace, "Concentrate on touching the two points of light and you will receive two abilities. One is the crystallization of the deepest qualities of your soul, that is the green point of light. The white point is the gift of the world, and everyone who awakens at the beginning has it." "What is the meaning of the color?"

Jenkins asked quickly.

"Colors represent types, white is the base, and green is life. Okay, let us talk about it outside, hurry up."

At this point, the atmosphere in the cramped room was actually a little wrong. Although the man in black was not moving, he was still able to exert enormous pressure on the two of them. And the more time passed, the closer that pressure came to the giant octopus monster that Jenkins had seen in his memory.

He followed Barnard's instructions and frowned at the point of light, but it was no use. He hesitated for a moment, and with what little knowledge he had of "mental suggestion" and "self-hypnosis," he reached out and touched his temple while saying to himself, "I am activating my superpowers."
