Seth
After Seth had finished telling his mother the story of his high speed chase and rescue, she relaxed her shoulders and just seemed to stare at the ground for the best part of what seemed like an hour. Then finally she looked at Seth.
"Hey honey how about you go out in the city and have a look around I'm sure Mike would be more than happy to show you around and also show you the house we'll be living in from now on."
"Wait what?" Seth exclaimed. "The house we'll be living in you mean we're moving here!?"
"Actually it's more like we're moving back here but yes we're moving none the less." "Seth look at me." Seth looked up at her and saw that her expression was serious.
"You need to understand that now that you have these powers you now have a responsibility to protect both this world and the one we lived in. We have a duty to protect those with no power because are power is a gift given to a select few by God Himself and we now must walk a path of light in an era of darkness. It's not safe for us in the Normal world but we still have to protect it and this world from armies of invading creatures like the one who chased you. We wage war against the demons and their allies so that we can keep our worlds free." It took a moment for Seth to take all that in. "So what you're saying is I'll be expected to fight hundreds of those giant black creatures that chased me through town and killed Joseph?"
His mom smiled, "that's corrected." Her smile made Seth shiver. He thought about the demons. "Well then I only have one question," he said. "Ask away."
"Where is the bathroom?"
After Seth left the room where his mother had come to see him he followed his moms' instructions and headed for the Castle's mess hall where apparently all the castle guards and staff would eat and hang out. After Seth ate he was supposed to go to the infirmary which was at the hospital on the east side of the city to pick up Mike whom was recovering from the injuries Seth had given to him.
Seth didn't mind the food it was good baked bread the tasted as rich and buttery as they smelled. He also was served a large chunk of ham and a juice box. Which at first struck Seth as a little weird but he didn't complain at all. The food was too delicious for that. After he had finished eating Seth promptly headed to toward the infirmary on the east side. As Seth walked through the gates he was almost surprised to find out he didn't teleport. The sun was low on the horizon and the air was warm. Below him the town still bustled with activity apparently cleaning up after that... whatever it was, was still going on. Seth spotted buildings being repaired and walls being put back in order. The builders all worked hand in hand like they were the best of friends. It was a peaceful setting and one that wiped the remaining doubt from his mind. There was no way the smiles on the people's faces were fake nor was the way the children played happily together. Here in front of him was a city like that of one someone might read of in a fantasy book or in some Manga book. It was a serine and beautiful scene.
Even though the sun was going down Seth could see that the city wasn't darkening it was instead beginning to glow brighter and brighter. Everything was glowing from the people to the buildings and not the kind of glow glow-sticks have but almost like a soft light was shining down upon everything, bathing it in pure light. It reminded Seth of the big cities he'd visited like Manhattan up in New York. No matter the time of day the City glowed with the light of thousands of vehicles and buildings. That is what it looked like here.
"Well I better get to the infirmary or else Mike will be wondering where I am," Seth said to himself.
"Not that you actually care about a crazy person like Mike," a familiar voice behind Seth said. Seth spun around to find the girl He had given the letter to... Rylee was her name. She was sitting beside the massive doors in the grass just off the path. It was clear she had been crying. She had tissues in her lap and she had red ringed eyes. Eyes that were so full of sadness that even looking at them made Seth feel depressed.
"I... I'm sorry about Joseph I..." Seth began.
"No you're Not!" Rylee shouted Interrupting Seth. "You Said yourself that you didn't believe that Joseph was even real. You basically denounced the act of joseph giving his life for you and you spit on his memory!" Seth didn't really know what to say, looking back on it he had been really foolish and rude with what he had said and despite her protests he did feel sorry about Joseph, even more now that he was positive that what he was experiencing was true. He sighed and looked at her furious eyes.
"Believe me I am sorry I just..."
"Save it I don't what to hear it!" Rylee got up and began to walk away. Seth wasn't sure why he did but he called after her. "Rylee, wait." She stopped and turned back tears streaming down her face. "Why... Why should I?" She asked. Seth couldn't explain it but he felt as if he needed to make amends for what he had said. He turned to the glowing city below him and clasped his hands in front of him. Then Seth slowly knelt in the soft green grass and bowed his head. He waited for a minute before Rylee decided to join him. They looked at each other and then Seth closed his eyes and began to pray. "God I know that what I have said has been foolish and selfish. And I know that for now on I should watch what I say. But if you would would you forgive me and thank Joseph for giving his life for the worthless one in before you. As penance for what I have done I will swear to protect and to watch over Rylee loved one of Joseph for as long as I shall live I swear that I shall be her shield and if necessary I will give my life as Joseph once did for me. So please tell joseph to rest well and know that I will keep his loved one safe. Amen"
When Seth looked up Rylee seemed to be aghast with both wonder and sadness.
"You didn't need to make such a promise that you probably won't be able to keep."
"If there's one thing you can always count on it is my word," Seth said to her. Seth got to his feet then put out his hand offering to help her up. "If You need anything just call. I will repay my debt." Seth then turned to go and began to walk toward the direction of the infirmary before Rylees' voice stopped him.
"Why?" Seth turned around
"What do you mean?" he asked.
Her face should genuine confusion. "Why did you do that? Why did you swear to God?"
Seth thought about it for a moment because he wasn't quite sure why he'd done it himself. He decided on a reason and turned to face her. He studied her weary face a face that seem to hold knowledge beyond the sixteen years that Rylee possessed. "Because I think this is the only way to show my sincerity in a way that you would believe me."
With that Seth turned and left her on the hill side in front of the massive castle looking after him as he walked away on his way to meet Mike.
