Chapter 5 - Injustice

Five years since Hermes lost his parents. The police investigation, meant to find answers, had gone nowhere. Stuck in the police station to follow up the case regarding his parents death.

Inside the police station, a frail woman, maybe in her seventies, approached the officer on duty. Tears glistened in her eyes as she explained her situation. Her bag, snatched away by a thief, held the money she desperately needed for her grandson's hospital treatment.

After the old woman asked for help, no one at the police station seemed willing to assist her. The station buzzed with activity, leaving her standing there in a daze. Suddenly, one of the police approached the old woman.

"Ma'am, I'm truly sorry, but we can't take your case right now. We're swamped because the Mayor's son is coming to file a report. Unfortunately, it seems important cases get handled faster here. Would you like me to find a nearby station for you, or would you prefer to come back tomorrow?" the police asked the old woman.

The old woman's shoulders slumped at the officer's words. The worn leather bag in her hand, now a cruel reminder of what had been stolen, felt heavy with despair. It had held the money, desperately needed for her grandson's treatment in the hospital. With each tick of the clock, the fear of his condition worsening gnawed at her. Returning tomorrow was a terrifying gamble she couldn't afford to take.

Hermes witnessed the interaction between the police officer and the elderly woman but chose not to intervene. He approached the officer and inquired about his parents' death.

"We still don't know who did it. The individuals responsible for your parents' deaths left no traceable evidence, making it difficult for us to pursue the case. It's been five years, and despite our efforts, the perpetrators remain elusive," the officer explained.

Although Hermes anticipated the officer's response, he still harbored hope that his query might yield a clue to unraveling the mystery surrounding his parents' demise. Unfortunately, his hopes were dashed as the officer reiterated the lack of progress in the investigation.

"We're exhausting every avenue, but these individuals are highly skilled. Their motives remain unknown, and we have yet to identify any suspects," the officer added, trying to offer some consolation to Hermes, who visibly displayed his disappointment.

With a heavy heart, Hermes realized that finding closure for his parents' deaths would be an arduous journey fraught with obstacles.

Feeling hopeless, Hermes left the police station with a muttered, "Useless." This single word encapsulated his frustration towards the authorities' inability to produce results even after five years had passed. "They're called the police, yet they're incompetent at delivering justice," he mused bitterly to himself.

Arriving at the Ventrio Headquarters, Hermes spotted Roman Lebado seated at a desk. He approached him with a question.

"How's the guy?" Hermes inquired, referring to Monsi, whom they had apprehended during an undercover operation involving illegal drugs.

"In the locked room, face full of bruises," Roman replied nonchalantly.

"Did you kill him?" Hermes asked in a hushed tone.

"Of course not, you're the one who suggested we keep him alive," Roman responded.

"Good. We can still utilize him to further our plans," Hermes remarked, a faint smile playing on his lips as he made his way to his secret room concealed within the office.

Beneath the moon's glow, illuminating the streets of San Juan, stood Leona. It was midnight, and she leaned against a lamppost, lighting a cigarette. Clad in a provocative dress that effortlessly commanded attention, she exuded an aura of allure that captivated any man who crossed her path. Adorned with jewelry that glimmered in the moonlight, she was a vision of temptation.

Leona's purpose on the street was clear: she waited for unsuspecting men to approach her. With her seductive charm, she lured them in, only to mercilessly end their lives and plunder their pockets for money and valuable possessions.

In the stillness of the night, Leona prowled the streets, her predatory instincts sharpened as she sought out her next victim.

In the corner of her eye, Leona spotted a bald, portly man approaching. Seizing the opportunity, she decided to seduce him. With a provocative glint in her eye, Leona sidled up to the man and placed a hand suggestively on his stomach. "Hey there, big boy," she purred in a husky whisper, leaning in close. "Seems like I'm feeling a bit… frisky tonight. How about you help me cool down?"Her ample chest grazed against him as she leaned in further, subtly drawing attention to her cleavage.

Any man would be tempted by this display. The bald man's gaze dropped to Leona's chest and legs, a flicker of urgency in his eyes. Before he could make a move, Leona took control. She leaned in further, her lips brushing against his ear. "Intrigued, are we?" she murmured, her voice sending shivers down his spine.

The bald man suddenly went to kiss the neck of Leona, roughly planting a kiss on her neck. Leona, though surprised by the sudden intensity, played along. After the man's rough kiss, she used his momentum to guide him closer to the wall.

Unable to contain himself any longer, the man lunged and grabbed Leona's ass. Instantly, he felt something sharp, like a blade. Leona seized the moment. With a swift slap, she knocked his hand away and drew the blade hidden beneath her dress. Her eyes narrowed with determination as she struck with deadly precision.

The blade plunged into the bald man's neck, and a torrent of blood sprayed in all directions. The scene was chaotic, but Leona remained unfazed. Suddenly, a van screeched to a halt on the opposite side of the street. Before the man's body could even hit the ground, two figures emerged, swiftly scooping up the lifeless form and pulling it into the vehicle.

Without missing a beat, Leona leaped into the van. The door slammed shut behind her, and the engine roared to life. Tires screeched as the van sped away from the chaotic streets of San Jose, disappearing into the night.

Inside the sleek and imposing Ventrio Headquarters, the atmosphere was charged with intensity. Severino, a tall man with a commanding presence, turned to Hermes, his eyes sharp and questioning.

"How is the case regarding your parents? Let me guess, no information, right?" Severino's voice was laced with a mixture of frustration and sympathy.

Hermes, a man driven by a relentless need for justice, clenched his fists. "As usual, we can't rely on the police. They are useless as always. That's why we're here—to cleanse this Earth."

Severino nodded, his expression grave but resolute. Hermes's eyes burned with conviction as he continued, "Not just this country, Severino, but the whole world. We will purge the evil within it. We will replace those corrupt officials and those who are wicked. When we achieve this, people will look up to us as heroes. It's a wonderful vision, Severino."

Severino's lips curved into a slow, confident smile. "Indeed, it's a wonderful vision," he agreed, his voice filled with determination. The two men stood there, united in their purpose.

In the midnight streets of San Juan, the air was thick with tension. Leona, dressed provocatively, was on the prowl, ready to seduce another unsuspecting man and relieve him of his possessions. Her eyes locked onto a tall, robust blonde man with a menacing scar slashed across his face. Sensing an opportunity, she approached him, her every movement a calculated temptation.

With a sultry smile, Leona pressed her body against the man's. But in an instant, pain erupted from her stomach. Blood spurted out, staining her dress. Her eyes widened in shock as she looked up at the man, who had already pulled the knife back. She hadn't expected him to strike so quickly.

Her strength drained away, and her body gave out. As darkness closed in, her eyes fluttered shut. Leona's seductive game had met a deadly end on the cold, unforgiving streets of San Juan.
