Chapter 1 - Prologue: An Ordinary Sunday

"Mhm"

Zhi Ying moved around with her eyes closed on her bed as if looking for something or someone.

After a few seconds, her face scrunched up as she failed to locate anyone else beside her.

Still groggy, her eyes fluttered open, revealing her hazy black eyes.

Gradually, she adjusted to the light and found a man lying on the far corner of the bed.

"When did he get away?" She grumbled before crawling to his side and immediately hugging him.

As if used to her morning hugs, the man just pulled her closer into his arms and snuggled for a while.

After about five minutes, he pecked her cheek and muttered, "Morning."

"Mhm" responded Zhi Ying before burying her head into his bare chest.

"I guess, I can let you sleep since it's Sunday," mumbled the man before embracing her tightly and pulling the blanket over them.

Unknowingly the couple remained asleep for the whole morning and only woke up when the sun was already high up.

Yawn~

Stretching their arms, they got out of bed wordlessly and stood before the bathroom door.

Without giving him a chance, she kissed him on the lips and dashed inside, leaving him dumbfounded.

"Even though it's been so long, I can't get used to the change in this girl."

The man said to himself with a slight smile, caressing his lips and chin where she kissed clumsily.

Having nothing but just his shorts on, he felt a chill, prompting him to freshen-up in the other bathroom.

...

...

...

After about an hour, the couple finally settled at the dining table.

Zhi Ying couldn't help but drool, looking at the delicious dishes placed on the table.

Noticing her state, her husband smirked, "You know, you don't have to hold yourself back."

Coming back to reality, Zhi Ying shook her head, "Ah, no. That's no good!"

"Haa... Nevermind. Let's eat!" He relented, knowing how stubborn she could be in certain aspects.

After his declaration, the couple prayed for health and dug in.

The sounds of chopsticks moving about and plates clinking echoed in the room for a while.

"Ahhhhhhhh, that was so delsh!" Zhi Ying exclaimed, patting her satisfied belly.

"Thank you, my Lady," her husband said with a dramatic bow in response to her praise.

In response, she rolled her eyes and shot him a glare.

Yet he just chuckled, finding it cute, as he moved to pick up the dishes.

"Aiya, you cooked already. Leave the dishes to me!" Zhi Ying interrupted.

"You sure?"

"100%!"

"Okay."

Despite his words, he couldn't help but cast a skeptical glance at his wife. 'Will she really do it?'

Although dating her was the best decision he ever made in life, he couldn't help but worry about her.

As if reading his mind, she puffed out her chest to reassure him, "Leave it to me! I'll surely do it!"

Her cute posture just elicited a loving smile from him as he patted her head and moved to the other room.

However, he didn't rest. Instead, he set up the lights, TV, speakers, mattresses, and pillows. Today, the couple had decided to enjoy their holiday with each other at home.

"Wow! You did a terrific job, sweetie~"

Right on time, she entered the room and complimented him.

Seeing her smile happily was enough to make him happy too as he walked towards the sitting area.

There wasn't any cheesy flirting between them as they were already past that stage.

That's why she didn't get angry at him not coming to lead her.

'This kind of relationship... makes me feel more mature and independent,' Zhi Ying mused as she sat next to him.

She looked at him pressing some buttons on the remote control and the lights dimmed to a romantic purple.

"My fav!" She gushed in excitement and couldn't wait to see what else he had planned.

Even her comfortable pajamas matched his and were selected by him for this day.

They weren't anything special.

Just made up of light cloth with few patterns on their light blue shade.

Right when her excitement was at its peak, her favorite song's music played.

Before she could gush out in happiness, she heard him sing it along.

"Feel it on my fingertips,

The happiness in your eyes;

How to freeze time instantly?

Remember looking into my firm eyes

Realizing there maybe no tomorrow

Facing the vast sea of stars

We are as tiny as dust

Floating in helplessness

Fate allows us to meet outside troubled times

Destiny wants us to love each other in disturbing times

Maybe the future is light years away..."

...

...

...

Clap clap clap clap

Listening to her favorite song in his voice made tears burst from her eyes as she clapped continuously.

Her emotional state brought turmoil within her husband as he rushed to hug her and the couple stayed standing for a couple of minutes.

He patted her back as she hugged him tightly and let out her tears of happiness.

Even if her love from him was borne out of her impure intentions of jealousy, it ended up making her fall hopelessly in love with him.

"Mhm. I'm fine now," she whispered, wiping the corner of her eyes.

The rest of her tears remained on his short but he didn't seem to care in the slightest, instead asking her.

"You are fine, right? Like completely fine?"

Seeing her husband's worry, she couldn't help but want to tease him.

So she puffed her cheeks and pouted, crossing her arms and looking sideways.

"No, I'm not fine! You made me cry, you heartless–"

She stopped midway as she felt his trembling lips met her own.

Yet she didn't resist and let him do as he pleased, not reacting in any manner.

However, the blush on her cheeks and neck gave her away completely.

"Enough, enough!" She shoved him away and asked, "What else have you planned?"

"Well, just wait and watch," he responded mysteriously.

As the couple returned to their seats, he turned on the 55-inch TV and it started to play different photos and videos with soothing instrumental music.

Relaxing to the soothing music, the couple felt nostalgic as they looked through selected photos from their past.

From high school, where they met and started dating to University, then getting married and buying a house together, decorating it.

It had pictures from all phases of their life.

At the end of the video, a line in cursive writing appeared,

I wonder how coincidences and accidents led us to each other. Would life even have any meaning if I didn't have you in it?

Looking at his feelings displayed for her, she smiled as tears welled up in her eyes.

"I... lobe... you... sho... mucth..."

She barely spoke those words with her cracking voice and he didn't stop her.

However, he was by her side, giving her all the support and love she needed.

Snuggling into his arms, she whispered her love for him between sobs.

Only after 5 entire minutes did she stop crying and calmed down completely.

Their breathing rhythm matched each other's as they felt comfortable in each other's presence.

At that moment, both had the same thought, 'I wish we were better in our younger days.'

However, the past couldn't be changed and all the couple could do was reminisce about how they met and fell for each other.

Thus, their tale began.
