Ethan resisted the urge to encircle her in his arms because of her evasive expression. Gritting his teeth, he spat out each word with domineering authority, "Lily, come over here and kiss me!"
Did this man really need to be so overbearing?
Lily pressed her bleeding fingertip and looked up at Ethan with seriousness. "Why did you let them beat you today?"
Don't tell her it was out of respect for his father—she wasn't buying it.
Surprised by her sudden question, a flicker of confusion flashed across Ethan's eyes. He quickly turned his head, his tone awkward and arrogant. "None of your business!"
"Because Dr. Joel is in your father's hands," she responded to him when he didn't answer. "You wanted to save Dr. Joel's life, but you, Ethan Blackwood, don't normally value other people's lives that much."
