KALLY'S POV
*************************
Other than the training I was receiving at the academy, Ilay began giving me extra lessons on the body's vital points. And he did this with live humans who were to be tortured and killed in his devil's den.
This kept me busy throughout the week, and I barely had any strength to attend those dinners and breakfasts.
Slowly and without realizing it, I started being comfortable around mutilated bodies and felt no pity for those bastards.
With Ilay as my teacher, how could I possibly not adapt and even participate in the torture?
"Kally?" Aya called as I ascended the stairs.
I looked back and saw her standing on the landing with a box in her hands.
She looked exhausted and the bags under her eyes only seemed to be growing darker since I last saw her. "Are you supposed to be calling me by my name? I don't remember permitting you, Aya."
She pressed her lips and clenched her jaw. "I'm sorry, Madam," she apologized through clenched teeth while struggling to keep a calm face.
Tormenting her like this was fun. And knowing that Ilay had poisoned her after engraving my name on her body, I felt that she was no threat to me. All the same, she was still someone I had to keep an eye on. Which was why I asked another maid to watch her and report if she did anything out of the ordinary.
I had been informed that she had met Irina and Elena on different occasions behind closed doors. Which made it pretty evident that she was planning something and may have sought their help.
Having grown up with her, I had a feeling that she would soon make her move on Ilay. After all, he was her only ticket to a normal life. But she was mistaken if she thought I'd just hand him over like a peace offering and makeup with her.
We were already past that point.
She came over and bowed her head giving me the box. "This came in for you."
I eyed it suspiciously before picking it from her hands. "Anything else?"
She hadn't moved so there had to be something she wanted.
Aya lifted her head wearing a flat expression. "Can we talk? You've been out of reach for days."
"Unlike you, I've been busy helping my husband with his work. Maybe if you had done more things like these, you wouldn't have had the guts to betray him."
"I... Listen to me, Kally." She grasped my hand between hers. "Nothing good will come out of staying here. Divorce him and leave while you still can. I know I made my mistakes, but I don't want you to drown in the evil side of-"
I yanked my hand glaring daggers at her. And, that was all it took for the next action.
Aya stumbled backward and lost her footing and down she rolled like a wheel. When she finally hit the floor, her groans floated in the air, audible to anyone close by.
Surprised, I lifted my hand before my eyes and stared at it wondering if I had grown powerful overnight. I hadn't even pushed her, so what was with the dramatic act?
"Aya! Oh gawd!" Elena cried showing up from nowhere and kneeling next to my sister. She pulled her head on her lap, wiping the blood coming from Aya's cut forehead as well as her mouth.
"Are you okay? What happened to you?"
And then she looked up the stairs and spotted me. "You! You did this!" She hissed.
"It's...o-kay," Aya defended sounding like she was on the verge of death. "Call an amb-ambulance."
"Heeeeelp!" Elena screamed loudly. "Somebody help! Irina? Luka?" She continued screaming like a mad woman, drawing the servants here as well as some of the family members.
An ambulance was requested immediately by one of the servants as they murmured to each other, throwing me horrified and scared glances as if I were the villain.
"Do you want to murder someone in our house?" Irina questioned, kneeling on the other side of Aya, painting this picture of caring employers in front of the servants.
"This wicked girl, can't even spare her own sister. She should be thrown-"
"Shut your damn mouth!" Milan's voice erupted from behind me before he descended some stairs to get to me. "What reason does she have to do this?"
They had suddenly gone mute. Even the murmurs were dead, left with only the scared gazes.
"Milan!" Elena cried dramatically. "Stop defending that whore. Can't you see what she's done to-"
"Keep your mouth shut before I do it myself!" He gave a stern cold threat that carried some depth to it. Just like Ilay's terrifying aura, I felt Milan's right at that moment as he faced the enemies on my behalf.
"That!" Irina pointed to the box in my hands. "Aya informed me that a suspicious package had been delivered for Kally and didn't want to hand it over until Ilay came. Kally must have been impatient and worried that her secret would be exposed."
"What secret?" Milan asked for the both of us because I was just as curious as he was.
With a fiery determination to bring me down, Irina got up. "That she's a spy from Ghost Skull."
Ah! I had read about them in class. They were a mafia syndicate from Canada.
While they weren't influential, just like Drakon, they were famous for dealing with poisons. Just not as good as Drakon.
I had heard rumors that the organization had possibly been established by a former member of Drakon a decade ago.
Drakon hadn't taken any action against them because they had already sworn their allegiance to the current Czar, Ilay's uncle.
"This is getting good," I murmured to myself, feeling elated that Aya had gone through such trouble just to set me up.
If there was any proof that whatever was in the box indeed could be traced back to Ghost Skull, I was certain that Ilay would grow some doubts about me. After all, he was quite alert about betrayers.
Milan turned to me looking confused.
"Is that, is that true?" He asked in a low and gentle voice.
"What do you think?"
His eyes fell on the box. "Give it to me. I'll shield Ilay off and say that it's a business deal."
I frowned at him. I did but want anyone to protect me from Ilay when I had obviously done nothing wrong. But all the same, I was glad that someone I had known only for a short time was willing to take the bullet for me even though it wasn't out of righteousness.
"That's not-"
Some heavy and fast footsteps came from the hallway leading to the exit. Grabbing our attention.
He was coming. I could feel it as some tension began building up in the pit of my stomach.
His guards showed up first and quickly cleared the path for Ilay, going as far as pushing even a wounded Aya to the side.
"Every one of you, kneel!" Ilay ordered walking up the stairs, blood staining his naked upper half, hair included.
The spotless sweatpants betrayed him. He must have casually put them on just to come here from his den.
His eyes didn't meet mine, they were instead fixed on the box still in my hands.
"Ilay, why are we-" Elena was silenced when a guard made her kneel properly.
Even Aya, who had seemed as if she was at death's doorstep, knelt up.
Nobody down there was spared.
Milan dashed to the side to stand in front of me and block Ilay from me.
"Get out of the way," Ilay instructed impatiently.
"Not until you calm down. This might be a set-up."
"I'll be the judge of that. Now fuck off."
