The horrifying sight of such a gargantuan creature juxtaposed to the small eerie figure riding atop it was too much for Lilo to absorb.
He forgot how to breath. Only after he averted his gaze did he finally inhale.
He could feel Bubbles nerves too. Her shaky breath was rapid under his hands on her diaphragm.
Burberry remained indifferent. Flying straight towards the creature just as he had before it revealed itself.
The colossal dragon had forced Lilo to finally look down at the ground hundreds of meters away.
People looked like ants at this distance but he could tell the cravers, herders, and shepherds apart.
He could also notice the white van leading the charge.
Pepper had her shooting arm out of the passenger window and was blasting her icy rounds towards the apperitions ahead of them.
The sentient glutton had an army of his own, much larger than the one Lilo remembered from his dream that recounted the fall of Soda's spire.
A sea of gluttons of varying ranks were deathly still, standing obediently under the colossal dragon.
The icy rounds froze several of them, but they remained undisturbed, like a hive mind that obeyed the will of its prime orchestrator.
Lilo forced his gaze back at the colossal creature to deduce more of what he feared.
The dragons head alone was unimaginably huge, making the curvy translucent humanoid glutton seem like an ant.
Dragons in movies and fairytales that Lilo knew of were always a manageable size.
There were stories of knights that bravely clashed with them and films of humans taking them to ride on their back.
He imagined them to be about five times the size of a human, perhaps four stories (10 meters) tall and equivalent in length.
But this giant creature was other worldly in size…
With perfectly smooth scales of typical gluttonous colors ranging from neons to tie dye.
A maw of razor sharp teath that were pristinely white attached to a square cranium with horns protruding off the corners, and a pair of golden eyes that seemed to engulf any soul that met its gaze with the same blazing flames that chuffed out of its nostrils.
Lilo felt so small and helpless; like a fly in the wind that could be batted away with ease by this behemoth of a creature.
The Griffen that Lilo, Bubbles, and Burberry was currently riding was more of the size he imagined what a dragon would be.
It could comfortably fit three people on its back and it's wingspan seemed to cover over 15 meters.
A bestial growl escaped its maw when it witnessed the unruling sight of the monsterous beast before them; and yet it still remained on course, unyielding to the natural desire to flee a terrifying scene.
What was Burberry thinking, leading them to thier certain death?
The fog dissipated even more, revealing even more smaller flight abominations.
A chilling reminder of the night he was mercilessly tossed and fought over like a snack to these powerful gluttonous monsters in the air before he fell to be splattered onto the forbidden temple flashed in his mind.
He wasn't able to get a good look at them back then in the dark and while dangling from such heights; but now in the light of the cresant suns, he saw them in all their horrifying splendor.
They were still mere flys in comparison to the colossal dragon, but their grotesque figures of torn flesh and drooling maws made Lilo's heart freeze.
But… there was something strange about their movements. They were simply hovering in place, frozen just like the gluttons below the dragon on the ground.
Despite this, it made Lilo uneasy, knowing that the sentient glutton simply did not care that his army was being bombareded on below by the shepherds.
Perhaps it was becuase up here in the sky… the sentient glutton was alone, only having Burberry as their threat.
Fear griped Lilo's heart as he realized they were facing the sky's horrors alone.
He wasn't alone in his fear. Even the aloof Bubbles seemed tense. She had been sharing his same reactions all this time…
But that damn tall menacing shepherd with his goofy Aztec outfit and glutton Griffen, was still undeterred.
Momentum was building in the strides of their flight and the tall menacing shepherd was aiming straight for the sentient glutton riding atop the dragon with his obsidian embedded staff.
Lilo clenched his hands as he gripped harder into Bubbles and leaned into her ear to shout over the raging wind.
"What the hell is he doing!?" Lilo asked in desperation.
Bubbles chest rose and fell in response as her diaphragm undulated.
Did she just… laugh?
She turned her face so that their eyes briefly met and she peeled back her mask to mouth the words.
"Not he, we. One thing about our cohort Lilo, is that we're bat shit crazy." Her crooked grin was momentarily contagious but the stakes of what was happening didn't allow Lilo to feel as light hearted as she did.
'Why couldn't I have just been assigned to a regular level headed cohort? Did I really just end up with the most unlucky draw of a glutton taming Aztec warrior wanna be and an attractive craver?'
"We're going to die! How are we supposed to face the sky's alone?" Lilo shouted again into Bubbles ear.
"We're not alone." She responded.
Liko rolled his eyes, dismissing another one of her bat shit crazy aloof comments…
But then, out of the corner of his eye, he noticed a shimmering white figure weaving in and out of the clouds.
His head swiveled around, promted by hearing the cacophony of air pericing sounds behind him.
The clouds were several different shades of pastel in color, so the white flashes that weaved in and out of the concealment of them made for a striking contrast.
The flapping sounds of enchanted leather and boards cutting the air was gradually growing closer.
A palpable aura of insane power could be felt as the figures approached closer.
There, in the midst of the clouds, scattered across the sky with thousands of emblems imprinted on kites… was a fleet of kite riders following in persuit behind their griffen.
