Gwendolyn couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong, that the forest was holding its breath.
"Look, Miss," Dorothy said, pointing to a cluster of trees.
Gwendolyn looked in the direction she was pointing and saw a small grove of trees in the distance. The leaves were bright green, and the air around them seemed lighter somehow.
"Let's go there," Gwendolyn suggested.
Dorothy nodded and the two girls hurried towards the grove, the relief palpable on their faces.
As they reached the grove, Gwendolyn couldn't help but feel a sense of peace wash over her. The air was fresh and the sunlight seemed to shine a little brighter.
"It's beautiful here," Gwendolyn remarked, her voice soft.
Dorothy smiled. "It's like the darkness is lifted," she agreed.
