As she finished her breakfast, she made up her mind. Today, she would venture out and enjoy the scenery. It was the perfect opportunity to clear her head and perhaps make sense of the strange dreams that had been haunting her.
After freshening up, Gwendolyn headed downstairs.
As she descended the staircase, her gaze fell on a large painting hanging on the wall. It struck her immediately; it was a portrait of the master of the house.
Gazing at the handsome face of the dark-haired man, she had a strange feeling of recognition.
"He looks familiar," she murmured. "But where have I seen him before?"
Gwendolyn was startled out of her reverie by a loud noise.
There was a flurry of activity in the halls as the servants got ready for the day. Some were sweeping, while others were dusting. Gwendolyn stood back and watched, her eyes wide with curiosity.
