ROMEO
Handing over the stash to one of the young thugs, I sighed.
They were a rival gang and fucking ruthless.
But we had good connections, and they were what you could consider as friends.
Lighting up a smoke, I watched the sun slowly set on the city, puffing the smoke from my body.
This almost dispelled all my cold, dark thoughts, and I focused on the bright orange and red colours that bled against one another.
My heart raced.
It was liberating to know that it would just stop beating one day, and my brain would stop thinking.
Dark thoughts sliced through my brain as I thought about Dehlila.
How she died.
The agony that cut through my body.
The only girl I've ever loved.
"Romeo something's gone down at Midnight's" bellowed Cal from the car loudly. No rest for the wicked.
I flicked the blunt down the hill towards the streaked sunset.
It was beaming now, almost like I'd set it on fire.
That fire made my heart burn.
I was beginning to fall for Midnight Ellison.
Getting in the car, I sped off quickly before I could give that any more thought.
**
Reaching Midnight's house, darkness had fallen on the small suburban street.
However, bright red lights shined and flashed. Midnight.
I jumped out of the car, anxiously bolting forward to check on my girl.
Someone was in the ambulance.
"Midnight," I bellowed, rushing towards it.
Paramedics pushed me back.
"I'm sorry, sir. Miss Ellison is in a serious condition", the paramedic stated calmly.
Grabbing my hair, I pulled at it, violence consuming me.
Raw panic clawed at my throat, constricting my airways. No, not again.
Before I could reply, I heard my name from somewhere.
My girl ran forward, pushing into me.
I crushed her close to me, running my hands through her hair.
Breathing in her familiar vanilla scent.
I pulled her back to look at her gorgeous face.
"It's my aunt. She's been stabbed", she cried softly, her face red and blotchy from her tears.
"Oh baby", I whispered, wrapping her closer to my body.
Clinging to her.
I loved her.
A life without Midnight Ellison was one I didn't want to live.
Not at all. She gave me my reason. My life in this one girl.
She'd crashed into my life a few months ago, and now she is one of the most important people in my life.
I wouldn't make the same mistakes I made with Lila.
I wouldn't kill Midnight.
Dexter looked at me from behind Midnight.
"We need to talk", he managed.
Well fuck.
**
My boys and I stood with Midnight, and a police officer asked questions, but Dexter told them it had been an accident.
Midnight decided to stay with us until her aunt was out of the hospital.
The ambulance had left, and Midnight was itching to go and follow her to the hospital.
The police left, and Dexter turned to us.
"I want everyone on this tonight to find out who fucking did this to Aliza. Axe, I want you to do a full sweep of the house with Cal to see if you can find anything. Jasper, I want you to come with me and see if we can find anything on CCTV. Ro will take our girl to the hospital," stated Dexter, giving me a weird look.
No room for fucking argument.
Midnight glanced at Dex and said nothing.
She just took my hand as I led her outside.
**
Driving to the hospital, I glanced at Midnight.
Her blonde wavy hair was all over the place, and her stormy grey eyes gleamed uncertainly.
"Princess, she'll be okay", I managed, grabbing her hand in mine.
She nodded, gnawing at her bottom lip.
"I just can't help but worry" she whispered.
"It's going to be okay, I promise," I said seriously.
I watched from the corner of my eye; her eyes flicked to mine like I was lying to her.
Glancing at me gave her the truth she needed.
She nodded and looked out of the window wordlessly.
**
Standing in the hospital room a few minutes later, her aunt was attached to all these different wires.
Beeping surrounded the room, bouncing off the bright walls.
She had been put into some sort of sleep.
Tears poured from Midnight's face.
I wrapped her up in my arms, and we stayed like that for hours, and I just let her cry.
I took Midnight to Axe's place that night.
Dexter, in his black T-shirt and pyjama shorts, sat at the kitchen island, working on his laptop.
Cal was sitting watching some murder documentary with Jas.
Axe was puffing his cigarette, staring at New York almost in awe.
Axel loved where he lived; I knew he'd never move from the city.
It held too much for him.
Midnight wandered in.
Dex's blue eyes flicked to hers, and there was some unspoken conversation between them.
"Any news," I said, breaking the eerie silence.
"No", stated Jasper, not evening glancing at Midnight.
None of them did, apart from Dex.
What the fuck.
"What's going on?" I asked, flicking my blonde hair back seriously fucked off.
This girl had been through so much today, and they all acted as though she didn't exist.
"Ask pretty boy," said Axe bluntly, blunting out his smoke with a glance towards me.
His fire eyes shone darkly as he threw his white T-shirt over the back of the sofa.
Night's eyes flicked to his body; she couldn't take her eyes off him.
Dex cleared his throat, and I snapped my eyes to him.
"Dexter doesn't want us assuming our rights with the princess; she doesn't belong to any of us but him. He's made that very clear, hasn't he? Cal" growled out Axe.
Cal turned his head, and a bruise was forming around his baby blue eye.
"You bastard" roared Midnight, lurching forward and hitting Dexter violently.
Grabbing her back, Axe and I watched her fight against us.
Dexter's nose was bleeding as he studied her angrily.
"You want to whore yourself out to my friends, huh do it" he shouted, slamming his fist against the kitchen wall and storming out.
After he left, Midnight rushed towards Callix, pulling his face into her hands.
"Are you okay?" she whispered.
A slight smirk graced his lips.
"Perfect little shadow" he smirked.
She smiled weakly, holding him closer to her.

MIDNIGHT
The following day, I woke up tired and aching.
I stretched my protesting body.
The sun streamed into the penthouse apartment, and I sighed.
I needed to go see my aunt.
I needed to know if she was okay.
"Morning sunshine," said Romeo looking at me with a cocky smile as he made some coffee.
"Morning," I said sleepily.
"Did he come back last night?" I asked, avoiding his questioning gaze.
"No, but he'll be at home. He's okay, don't worry," said Romeo, sipping coffee, the pungent aroma invading the apartment.
"How do you know he's okay, though?" I quizzed, sitting up, butterflies violently flipping my stomach.
"Stop worrying. Go get ready, and I'll take you to the hospital," he said calmly, ignoring my question and wandering into the bathroom?.
I watched after him.
I grab a black hoodie I find on the table.
I put it on.
It's probably Dex's, and I need to feel close to him right now.
"I'm ready, Ro," I call loudly.
**
Driving down the busy high street, I stared out the window.
"Romeo, you've just missed the hospital turning", I complained, looking back concerned.
A slight smirk took over his mouth.
"Romeo Summers, what the fuck" I shouted, getting really annoyed.
But he just continued smiling.
"Princess Dex is at the hospital with Axe.They said they'd phone if there was any news. I'm under strict instruction to take you out for the day to, as Cal put it, relax," he laughed air, quoting the last part.
"I want to see my aunt," I cried, pouting at him.
"Aww, you're cute when you're mad; just trust me, Midnight, please," he asked sweetly.
I blew out a heavy breath, and he grinned excitedly.
"We'll go see her after," he muttered, focusing on the road.
I nodded quickly.
I glanced around and saw that he had parked in a busy car park.
"A theme park," I managed, eyeing Romeo with a long stare.
I was ditching my aunt for some day on rides.
"My favourite place in the world; I thought I'd share it with my future wife," he smiled.
My stomach flipped.
His future wife.
What? "But Dex—" I started.
"Dex isn't the boss of us, princess, and he knows all bets are off when it comes to you. He was just asserting his dominance with Cal." Romeo finished flicking through his phone carelessly.
His green eyes gleamed vibrantly, and I watched him with wonder.
"Come on, Midnight, for a few hours of junk food, fun rides, and kissing on the Ferris wheel," he flirted, winking at me.
A small chuckle escaped me.
Romeo Summers was a force to be reckoned with.
**
When I was younger and went to a theme park, the coconut game was always my favourite.
I was terrible at it, though.
"Come on, baby, you've missed the last three," moaned Romeo, his competitiveness coming out playfully.
"You go then if you think you're so good," I challenged, folding my arms and watching him.
He flicked his blonde hair back and grinned.
His white teeth gleamed.
He was so beautiful.
He covered his eyes, throwing the red ball and knocking the coconut off.
Everyone cheered.
Standing there open-mouthed, I watched this arrogant asshole choose a prize. Ugh.
I was never going to hear the end of it.
After getting the prize, he turned to me with a cocky smirk on his beautiful lips.
"Midnight Ellison, will you marry me?" he asked, holding out a ring with a red love heart on it.
All the girls around me swooned, but all I could do was stare at the man with the confidence and charming ability to pull off something so romantic.
"Oh, Romeo Summers, sure, why not?" I laughed, holding out my hand, which he took.
Romeo had a massive smile for the whole day, and I loved seeing it.
He was so amazing; I couldn't even describe how much.
I was head over heels for him.
