Chapter 23 - Day 20

Our journey to the North Pole began, uncertain of what awaited us there. I had a feeling we would be surprised, but with my strong team, we've faced tougher challenges before. My desire to go to the pole wasn't just about finding new members for my team. I sensed a problem, and if I ignored it any longer, I might not be able to handle it.

The journey takes two days, so we transitioned to the other world and headed to the point parallel to the North Pole. We then returned to my world, arriving at the pole in less than an hour. Upon arrival, I noticed that the colony had grown larger since my last visit. There were more soldiers guarding the area, and it looked gloomier than before.

We entered after an overly thorough inspection, and someone was contacted to authorize our entry and request our presence. A soldier escorted us to an office where we met a man in his fifties, wearing glasses, who seemed to be in charge. We stood before him, and he greeted us, asking, "Who among you has the box?" Silence filled the room as no one dared to speak until I interrupted, asking, "What box are you talking about?" He replied, "Everyone else leave, except you. It seems you're the one I need to talk to privately."

"My name is Kaijo, and this is my colony. We were a small group founded more than two years ago. The founder of our movement is a man named Hamura. Hamura was a mathematics teacher, and one day a portal appeared to him, allowing him to travel to the realm of the gods. There he met the being with the eyes, our ruler and master. From that moment, Hamura stayed with our master, learning many secrets of the universe until he was told by the being with the eyes that our planet would explode and perish in three years. Upon returning to Earth, Hamura decided to gather people and wait for a message from the being with the eyes, believing he alone could save them. As soon as Hamura returned, the portal vanished."

From his words, I deduced that the portal reached Hamura at the same time I found it in my room, indicating that Lian sent it, not the being with the eyes. However, when Hamura crossed over, he encountered the being with the eyes, who then exploited him. It seems there's a bigger plan at play than I initially thought. I was shocked by what I heard but also felt there was a secret hidden in this colony that Kaijo was keeping from me.

While lost in my thoughts, Kaijo interrupted, saying, "I want you to hand over the box. You don't understand its importance." I feigned ignorance, asking what was inside it. His answer was shocking—it seemed he truly knew nothing and was being manipulated by the being with the eyes. If I reacted, I might have to kill him, which I didn't want to do, as it meant confronting one of my own kind. This strange situation left me in a difficult position. I decided to stall for time to uncover the secrets of this place. I suspected there was another reason for founding this colony, and discovering it might help me defeat the being with the eyes.
