Chapter 34 - Chapter 34

She looked extremely beautiful. The red hair was fluttered by the wind, the dark eyes sparkling. The black riding horse muttered gracefully on the very edge of the cliff. In her raised hand, Janet held a small hunting spear, frost and anger in her cheeks had stirred up a blush worth it even more eloquently. The black velvet coat, opening from the rapid movement, revealed a wonderful, well-trained body. Callan studied the young woman with an appreciative grin.

"You're still laughing, you wretched dog!" Janet exclaimed in anger and hurled her hunting spear with a swift movement. That didn't catch Callan, but he groaned with mock injury and collapsed into the deep snow, feigning immobility. Laughing victoriously, the lady rode down the trail off a cliff and, having jumped off her horse, approached to Callan's motionless form. Janet looked at the boy intently and then leaned against his chest to hear his heartbeat.

"Aha, gotcha!" Callan exclaimed triumphantly, his eyes twinkling with mischief. He swiftly seized Janet's arms, pulling her beside him . For a moment, the two rolled around through the snow, exchanging insults and curses until Callan managed to grab Janet's hands. He glared at the girl and pressed Conan's formidable knife against her delicate throat. "And what if I cut your throat right now, what then?" Callan smiled kindly at the captive.

"Do it, you piece of shit! Death is more preferable than enduring your revolting gaze for even a second longer!"

"Oh, you want to die?" Callan leaned towards Janet even closer, his breath warm on her skin. "If anyone would be in your place, everyone would like to die, but not because me, but because the stupid, old man who resembles a crazy bull! Tell me how is it to be with him in bed, Janet, can't you wait to be in his arms again? Do you love him so blindly that you don't see anything else you could admire?"

"Release me or kill me, but don't talk like that, please!" Janet muttered in a quiet, frantic voice. "Please!" she wasn't far from tearing.

"You're a nice girl when you say – please," Callan lowered the knife. "But without a ransom, I won't let you go," he pressed a long, passionate kiss onto Janet's lips. "So, and now ride away, let's meet in two weeks' time in battle." Callan stood up and extended a hand to Janet.

"In two weeks' time..." Janet muttered and looked Callan in the eye insecurely.

"Well, was it not so?" he glared openly in return.

Janet hesitated. Callan reached out his hand and pulled the girl back to himself. "When you are so embarrassed you look even better," he whispered to Janet's ear, his lips brushing against her skin. He kissed her again, this time with a lingering passion . "And now ride, unless you've decided we should spend the night in the woods, because the second time I'm not going to let you go so easily."

Janet slowly loosened herself from Callan's hands, mounted her horse and throwing a long glance at her former enemy, galloped away.
