Chapter 137 - The one sent over

The next day, someone arrived at Melinda's room right after some maid had left, giving the gold-haired girl quite a surprise.

"Greetings, young lady Fenrioette. His majesty, the Emperor of Emperors, Sigurd Em'raldio, allowed me the honor and opportunity to aid you with your ailment. My name is Seth, the former knight captain of the Second Healing Company. I was also given the position of one of the teachers in Jade Academy and will be in charge of both healing magic theory and practice from now on."

The person, a tall silver-haired woman who appeared to be in her mid-to-late sixties, introduced herself both verbally and by using magic to create pale-blue letters floating in mid-air. She bowed deeply to the surprised gold-haired girl standing at the door of her dorm room.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, lady Seth. This one humbly accepts the grace of his majesty. This one will be in your care."

Although the situation wasn't to Melinda's liking, it was a direct result of her own actions, so she had to deal with it.

After she had some time to think about how she acted the day before, she cursed herself for just giving out all the details, completely disregarding the consequences that now came to bite her in the ass.

"Young lady, there is no need for formal language. I am here to help you recover back to full health, hopefully. If it's not too much to ask, could I take a look at your injury?"

"..."

The older woman asked, making sure to move around in an exceedingly animated manner to convey the feeling behind the words floating in the air. She waited for an answer while Melinda seized her up with a hesitant look in her sharp eyes.

Needless to say, Melinda would prefer to be left alone. She knew exactly what was happening to her, and having a skilled professional examine her could ruin everything.

When she went to the temple, she made sure to approach the medic whose skill would only give him a general understanding of the stats of the person he was examining, which saved being discovered to have awakened Gargantuan and the actual amount of HP she had.

It was highly doubtful that someone like Seth, especially after the introduction she gave, wouldn't have a much better version of a similar skill.

"..."

Seeing the gold-haired girl's obvious hesitation, the silver-haired woman looked to the sides to ensure that she would not be overheard and leaned in toward her.

"Young lady, do not worry. I have plenty of experience dealing with ambassadors and foreign guests of honor. On top of that, I know your father personally and would not offend him or your family. I wouldn't dare to offend you. I will only use a general skill that will not show your ability or resistance, sharing the results without delay to prove no ill intent."

Seth whispered and simultaneously created much smaller letters, much closer to the gold-haired girl's face, and smiled reassuringly before leaning back and continuing the wait for Melinda's decision.

The problem was that her saying it like that made Melinda's skin crawl.

It was as if the silver-haired woman could see right through her or, worse, read her mind straight up.

Although uncommon, there were a few abilities that could allow such a thing, and since a character like Seth never appeared in the game, Melinda couldn't be certain that the woman in front of her wasn't a wielder of one of them…

"...I trust in his majesty…"

"...?"

After a moment of inner turmoil, Melinda slouched and stepped away to make way for Seth. The thing was, she ended up sounding so upset that it made the silver-haired woman blink repeatedly in silence.

It wasn't the words themselves that shocked Seth but rather the way that Melinda said them.

The gold-haired girl didn't sound like a foreign aristocrat bearing with an inconvenience because of authority behind a request.

She sounded just like someone agreeing on an activity they hated only because they didn't want to make the person organizing it feel bad.

In truth, Seth had even more experience than her outward appearance suggested and could tell all of that with relative ease.

But that was why she was so confused about Melinda's behavior.

"...young lady… pardon the forwardness but… do you actually know…?"

"Do I know about what…?"

The silver-haired woman ended up asking, but the floating words upset the gold-haired girl, who put up her shoulders and grumbled, glaring at Seth with her sharp golden eyes.

"Do you actually know exactly what kind of object ended up embedded in your side?"

"Oh…! Umm.. some kind of monster part. A claw or a fang."

Seth shook her head and changed the words floating in front of Melinda, causing the girl to let out an embarrassed gasp and respond awkwardly.

After that, the silver-haired woman got into the room.

She grabbed a chair from the desk and placed it by the bed, she then sat on the chair and patted the mattress encouragingly being very clear about her intenitons.

"..."

Melinda closed the door and dragged her feet to the bed, where she sat down, took off her shirt, and put up her arms so that Seth could take off the bandages and properly examine the wound and the object sticking out of it.

The gold-haired girl remained vigilant, prepared to back off on the off chance that the silver-haired woman would try to suddenly jank out the Royal hydra's claw.

"Let's see…"

Seth hummed to herself without creating the floating words, instead putting her left hand to the side and opening it…

…and creating a projection very similar to the game window Melinda was so used to seeing on the screen back in her past life…

Then, Seth reached out her right hand, stopping it a few inches away from the girl, and furrowed her brows.

The next moment, the window she created filled with text and numbers, and Melinda could see her own status in a pale blue hue.

Just like Seth promised, there were no numbers except for the level.

The space for ability was left blank, and each stat was shown as a rectangular bar.

The one for HP wasn't full and had a flashing red frame, while the one for defense was faded and almost grayed out.
