"What?" Penny screamed loudly as she glared at her father. "Why do I need to leave my room for the night? If she is sick, she should rest in her room." a look of disbelief crossed her face when her father took side of Nora. it had never happened before.
Most of the time, her father behaved like Nora did not exist. He did not meddle in anything related to her. Why did he care for her suddenly? She tried to recall everything from the past week and her mind stilled on today's event.
They really wanted Nora to marry that rich man. That is why they care for her health now. But why? She did not understand.
"Papa," she spoke in a soft voice. Since childhood, Penny has been a pampered child. She had gotten everything she wanted. So she could not believe that her family would stop favoring her now and that also for Nora?
The girl did not deserve to be loved since she was an orphan. If she wanted love, she should go where her parents were and demand love from them. Simple!
She did not feel a hint of guilt as she wrapped her arms around her father's arm and leaned on his shoulder.
"Papa, why are you so angry with me? I was only trying to help you?" she pouted and spoke in an aggrieved voice. "I have heard mother telling Nora that she needs to attend the guest and take care of him since he is a very important person. He is your boss. So when my sister did not arrive, I only took his place so that your boss would not be angry." she explained in an extra sweet voice.
David closed his eyes. He knew Penny was mixing some lies in the truth. But to think that his daughter was only thinking about his welfare warmed his heart. He let out a sigh and his body started to relax.
"Today was an important day for me, Penny. The man had the ability to offer me bonus shares, if that would have happened, i would have gotten the position of chairman not only because of his favor but in reality.
Then, even if I lost his favor one day, I would not have worried about my position. The company would have belonged to me." he softly regretted as he ran a hand in his hair. He had so many expectations from today but everything went to waste.
His mood became foul at once and Penny noticed it with the way he mumbled a curse in his mouth. But she did not pay attention to it. Her mind concentrated on the power that man held. And he was handsome.
His chest and his muscles. Her eyes filled with desire. Though she was still young, she was fascinated toward handsome men. There was a young boy in their school who had proposed to her but she did not find him attractive. He looked so weak in comparison to that man.
"Father, if that man holds so much power? Why did my mother not let me serve him? Mommy insulted him so much. He would definitely take his anger out on you later." David gritted his teeth and pushed her hands away from his arms.
She sniffled but did not hold him stubbornly and let his arms go.
"Because your mother is a fool but she would never accept it. She thinks she is the only one with mind and could do anything."He stood up and paced in the room with anxiety. "Let me tell you Penny, if something happened to my position in the company, I will not let you and your mother stay happily in the room. I will dismiss all the staff and you have to cook and clean the house yourself." he gritted his teeth and then anxiously took out his cell phone and called someone.
Slowly, he left for the garden as he kept talking about some stocks. Penny sneered and folded her hands in front of her chest.
"Me? Why would I work when I am trying to help you? It was mother who pushed the man away and Nora who tried to take my place." her eyes burnt with hatred toward Nora.
It was so good that she somehow drowned herself into the water. But it would have been better if the girl had died.
"Nora, either you live or die, you could never get any good thing. All the best things belong to me and I would throw good things instead of giving them to you. You are a pest, so you will live like one!" She stood up and walked to her room. There Nora was sleeping soundly on her bed. A maid had just cleaned the room and was leaving when Penny stopped her.
"Did she have her medicines and dinner?" the maid shook her head.
"Nora did not wake up at all. Her medicines and dinner went cold and I took it back to the kitchen. Young miss, are you going to share bed with her or shall i arrange a guest room for you." asked the maid in a respectful voice when Penny shook her head.
"I do not get sleep in a new place easily. I will sleep in my room only." The maid was not sure about it since she knew Penny did not like Nora. But she did not care as long as she was not involved. So she asked for Dinner and when Penny refused, she left the room and closed the door behind her. Penny walked to the closet and took out a leather belt from her closet. She did not believe that Nora was so sick when her skin still looked so rosy. She stood in front of Nora and hit the bed with her belt.
"So, Nora! You are so sick that you could not move." she asked in a voice filled with malice, "how about i test it with this belt?"
