Chapter 22 - — Devouring

As the meteor simply vanished. Clay felt an overwhelming power, an overwhelming darkness, and overwhelming loneliness, the mana in which he had consumed was beyond him, and it started to break down his body, the form of the caster took shape in his mind. His mind was overloaded with powerful mana, Ultima. The pure form. It felt it all inside his body.

Every element flowed through Ultima, which was now consumed into his core. An Ultima core. The peak of heightened mana. Clay had basically cheated through tens of years of progress. He unsheathed his sword, and even though he could feel himself crumbling. He dashed forward the man. Feeling the ascended power of his mana, his wind was stronger, he could rip across the distance between them in a second.

He zipped behind the man, enhancing his blade with raw mana. He slammed his sword down. The enhanced force crushing through the mana barrier.

"How are you still alive, brat? And my meteor, gone?"

Professor Faroth was struggling, and was recovering on the roof.

"You think you're just going to get away with that? How fucking stupid are you?"

Clay put his hand on the barrier.

"Devour!"

The darkness swallowed again. This time, the infinite knowledge of runes flooded his mind, he was paralyzed for a second. It was enough. The man brought his sword towards Clay. But a split second before it made contact. Clay ducked below and went down to the roof. The runes flowed through his mind, there were too many, he had to choose selectively.

He lined up tens of layers in front of him. Aiming at the man. He started spinning an orb of raw mana. Condensing it until it became the size of a bullet. He aimed it through the barriers. As the man was too busy casting. He released the intense rotation. The bullet burst through. The recoil shredding clays right arm, breaking many bones. The bullet passed through the barriers. Each one making it faster, bigger, stronger. Until it pierced through the man's chest. Making a gaping hole in his chest. Clay could not move. Paralyzed his mind and bodies overload. His arm crumbling.

What was he doing? He thought to himself. Why had he done this to protect an unfamiliar people. An unfamiliar people. When only weeks ago he was risking his life for his world. His kingdom. If his death meant nothing back home. Maybe he could make himself worth it here.

Professor Faroth walked over to Clay's paralyzed body.

"How in the hells did you do that? You've never taken a single one of my classes. And last time I checked you didn't even know the fundamentals. So, are you a quick learner, or did you cheat?"

Clay could not respond. As he was paralyzed.

"Hmph…right, usually overconsumption of mana makes you pass out. But, it seems you're suffering from an over absorption of mana, now how did you manage to do that?"
