Chapter 40 - Nen Class [3]

'Time for Plan B.'

Walking through the crowd, Isaac soon made it out, walking onto the elevated surface Mr Hall stood.

As Isaac pondered upon his plan, not too far from him, Mr Hall furrowed his eyebrows as he turned his head toward the boy.

As Isaac appeared beside the man, he stayed quiet.

"Shall we get started?" Mr Hall turned his head.

'I knew it. I made sure to walk toward him silently. There's no way a regular blind person could notice me.'

Isaac confirmed his thoughts.

"Yes."

Isaac turned around, facing away from Mr Hall as he soon felt a palm press against his back.

Taking in a deep breath, Isaac was prepared to undergo his plan.

And it was simple.

He would simply push back the Nen entering his body, to give the illusion of the Aura Nodes being blocked.

He was confident in his Nen control, however, if Mr Hall came at him aggressively, he might be in trouble.

It wasn't long until Isaac could feel the Nen entering his body, and as he planned, his own Nen combated it.

Although he made sure he didn't resist too much, to not raise any suspicion.

As time went on, he allowed the Nen to pass through, to signify the Aura Node had been unlocked.

As the Nen reached a Node, Isaac would present it with slight resistance, letting pass a few seconds later, continuing to do this.

'It's working.'

Just as Isaac thought this, something happened.

Suddenly, Hall's Nen started to rapidly pump into Isaac's body. Not only was the Nen bypassing his own, but it was also travelling straight toward his abdomen.

Meanwhile, Mr Hall panicked as he suddenly felt a vacuum sucking all the Nen from his body.

'What's happening?!'

It had only been a few seconds, yet a quarter of his Nen had vanished.

Removing his hand from the boy, Isaac dropped to the ground, on his hands and knees as he breathed rapidly.

"What happened?"

"Did it work?"

One could see a white steam-like substance exuding from Isaac's body, rising into the air and soon disappearing.

Of course, this was Isaac's Aura.

He had deactivated his Ten to achieve this, the same result that first occurred when Netero opened his Aura nodes.

Mr Hall stood, unmoving as a ball of sweat ran down the side of his face.

He was speechless. He tried to speak, but no words came out. He'd never experienced anything like this before, therefore he'd completely forgotten about his class and his student hyperventilating on the ground.

'What's going on?'

Meanwhile, amongst the students, a female wearing a skirt, and round glasses with long brunette hair, stared at the scene at the front of the class.

Nothing seemed off when seeing the boy on the ground, breathing heavily, seeing as how that was normal upon forcing one's Aura Nodes open, but what seemed suspicious was Mr Hall and his perplexed demeanour.

Additionally, although barely, she could feel the Aura surrounding Mr Hall had significantly lessened.

"Is that it?" Isaac asked, feigning ignorance, snapping Mr Hall out of his trance.

"What…no. There's still one more step."

As Isaac rose to his feet once again, Mr Hall signalled for him to turn around, to which he complied.

Once again placing his hand on the boy's back, Isaac felt as if he were being covered by a blanket.

'What's this?'

As Isaac felt more and more like he was being encased, he could feel his fleeting Aura taking shape, coating his body.

"Remember this feeling. Try your best to imitate it."

Isaac didn't need Mr Hall to further specify what he was talking about.

'Ah, I understand. That's pretty smart.'

It seemed Mr Hall was forcing a state of Ten upon Isaac by using his own Nen to push back Isaac's escaping Aura.

'Even Netero didn't know of this technique.'

But Isaac understood. This was just the experience Mr Hall had as an instructor that allowed him to better teach his students.

If Netero committed his time to teaching others, Isaac had no doubt he'd be this good.

Isaac already knew Ten, but he made sure to struggle a little to keep his status as an F-ranker.

Soon, Mr Hall retracted his Nen as Isaac stood in a state of Ten.

"Well done. You have mastered the basic technique of Ten." Hall smiled as Isaac turned back.

"Thank you, Instructor." Isaac gave a slight bow as he turned to leave, soon stepping off the elevated surface and walking back into the crowd.

As he did, the smile on Mr Hall's face faltered for a second.

'That boy…'

Many didn't know this, however, despite Mr Hall losing his sight, he wasn't as blind as people thought.

Instead, he could see Nen.

The Nen in the air, the Nen in plants. Everything had Nen, and at times, this form of sight was far more convenient than normal vision.

It was because of this skill, that Hall could notice something.

From the second he saw Isaac, there was an abundance of Nen surrounding the boy.

As if the boy's body was pulling in the Nen from all around him.

'I've never seen anything like it.'

Mr Hall's scepticism grew even greater upon his Nen disappearing inside the boy. No matter how hard, he couldn't sense where his Nen had gone.

It's as if it disappeared somewhere within Isaac.

Not to mention the fact his Nen was sucked out of him, and no matter how hard he tried, couldn't resist.

He didn't know what the boy did…or what the boy even was.

'Ugh, I need a drink.'

He'd only been through one student, yet Hall was already feeling burnt out.

'One thing is clear.'

Hall stared at Isaac.

'That boy is either loved by Nen or is cursed by it.'

Meanwhile, Isaac sighed as he reintegrated back into the crowd.

"Next up, Rank 427, Michael Shaw!"

Fortunately, Mr Hall continued, calling up another boy as the students turned their gaze from Isaac to him.

Except for one student.

Isaac could feel daggers piercing into him, as one student kept their gaze glued on him.

This student was Amara Khan.

Pretending like he wasn't paying attention, Isaac followed the student's gaze, watching Mr Hall continue.

'That feeling. When the Thing inside me drained the Nen from Hall…'

Isaac was speechless.

For once, since leaving the Dark Continent, Isaac was…satiated.

He'd felt as if he had eaten mountains of food, the twisting feeling in his abdomen disappearing.

'The Nen the Thing drained from him filled me up.'

One would think Isaac'd feel relieved or shaken, however, it was the opposite.

He felt excited.

'If I can replicate that ability, to drain Nen from others…'

Isaac giggled inwardly, unable to contain his excitement at the thought.

Not only would this be useful for him as a utility ability, but he wondered what would happen if he drained every drop of Nen from someone.

'Isaac the sucking Assassin. Now who wouldn't fear...'

Upon thinking this, Isaac couldn't help but rethink the name.

During the next hour, Mr Hall continued to force open the rest of the student's Aura Nodes, guiding them with Ten as well.

And soon, just as Hall had promised, everyone had learned Nen.

"That'll be all for today. If you check your Status, you'll find your Nen to be at a level one proficiency."

A few students muttered something, and they soon gave a nod of understanding.

"On your way out, you'll find a few stacks of plain books. Those books will contain detailed descriptions of both the basic techniques of Zetsu and Ren. I expect you to have mastered both techniques before our next class, proving yourself as a level two Nen user."

A few of the students looked at each other.

Their next lesson was in a few days, and they couldn't help but feel slightly overwhelmed.

"What happens if we're unsuccessful?" Asked a student.

With a pause, Hall answered.

"Nothing. I'll take it upon myself to help you master them."

A few students let out a breath of relief.

'His goal isn't to have the students master the techniques.'

Isaac thought, glaring at the teacher with a hint of suspicion in his eyes.

"However, you should know, this will allow me to differentiate the Cubs from the Lions." Mr Hall continued, confirming Isaac's thoughts.

"Those who are unsuccessful will be put in a group of…shall we say 'lesser individuals'. While those who succeed will be acknowledged by me as a genius. Let's call them Group 2 and Group 1 respectively."

Isaac chuckled inwardly.

'Crazy bastard. He doesn't care about sewing discord between the students. Well, I guess this will motivate them a little.'

"Additionally, those who succeed will immediately begin Hatsu training."

The students roared in surprise as it was evident they couldn't contain their excitement.

'Hatsu, huh.'

As Netero explained, Hatsu allowed one to shape their Nen in their image.

'That's how he was able to use that giant Buddha technique or the thing Zigg did with his strings. These were all Hatsu.'

Evidently, the chance to create your own superpower greatly intrigued the students.

'Maybe not create.'

Isaac had found out that most Inheritors from the HxH verse typically decided to use the same Hatsu as their character if said character even had one.

This was usually the wisest choice, as doing anything else would be counterproductive.

"I hope to see you all succeed. Class dismissed."

The students began to walk out of the hall, each one taking a book as they did, including Isaac.

'So learning the basic techniques will allow a Nen user to reach level 2 proficiency? If that's the case, I should easily be able to make the cut.'

Being a level 3 Nen user, this assignment should prove easy for Isaac.

Yes, Isaac had decided he'd join Group 1.

The task of the assignment itself wasn't very hard, therefore, he wouldn't diminish his title as an NPC.

This way, he'd be starting his Hatsu training early and he wouldn't have to hide his Nen anymore.

But there was one problem.

Isaac had no interest in starting his Hatsu training just yet. Not without the Scarlet Eyes.

Isaac had long decided he wanted to replace his eyes with the Scarlet, but he knew of no one who could replace eyes.

Well, that wasn't exactly true.

During his research, he'd set his eyes on a certain female in his class.

'Ava Longfield.'

To put it simply, Isaac had to have his Scarlet Eyes implanted in him by the next Nen lesson, in a few days.

"Hey, Isaac!"

Snapping him out of his thoughts was Oliver, waving to him.

Isaac was so deep in thought, that he hadn't realised he'd been walking for some time, under the sun toward his dorm.

"Hey, Oliver." Isaac waved back, walking toward the boy.

With Oliver was Zach and a boy Isaac didn't recognise.

Seeing his confusion, Oliver introduced the two.

"Isaac, this is Johnny. He's the only other person amongst the First Years who still haven't entered his scenario, besides me."

The boy walked to Isaac, shaking his hand with a smile.

The boy had quite a simplistic demeanour about him.

With simple black hair, and simple brown eyes, both features paired well with his simple height and smile.

Perhaps the most interesting thing about the boy was his light freckles.

"Nice to meet you." The boy greeted.

"You too," Isaac replied simply, turning his attention to Oliver who had bandages wrapped around his forearm.

"What happened to you?" Isaac asked with a raised eyebrow, seeing the blood seeping through the bandages.

"Oh, just an accident. Since I'm not an Inheritor yet, this is a free period for me. I decided to check into the Chakra training class and got too cocky with a Kunai. But don't worry, I have a few Senzu beans in my room." Oliver laughed, scratching the back of his head.

Injuries like this no longer took a few weeks to heal. It was just a matter of how fast you could find some medical supplies or a healer.

Looking over to Zach, Isaac stared for a few seconds.

"Are you okay?" Isaac asked, noticing Zach's pale and weak demeanour.

"What…I mean, yes." Zach replied unconvincingly.

Seeing Zach's eyes dart to Oliver's arm occasionally, Isaac inwardly nodded in understanding.

'He seems to have a weak stomach.'

Although Isaac saw that as a tedious problem for someone like an Inheritor, he didn't think too much of it.

They had 10 months before the next scenario. He was sure Zach could get over his weakness to blood at that time.

Before the small group could walk any further, their path was blocked by a large and unfriendly-looking individual.

"Are you Isaac, Rank 769?" The individual, followed by two others, spoke as he stared at Isaac.

But most importantly, Isaac recognised the individual as one of Daniels's lackeys.

'I don't remember doing anything to piss them off.'

"Who's asking?"

Isaac gave a quick glance to the individual's watch, seeing the letter D-.

An annoyed, maybe even disgusted look appeared on the large individual's face.

"I am. Rank 22, Frank Tyson. Come with me. And I don't recommend you resist." Frank turned his head, preparing to walk as Isaac began to follow with a straight face.

"Isaac, should I call someone?" Oliver asked.

"Whatever you want to do, I've got your back." Added Zach, although, his weakly demeanour said otherwise.

"No, it's okay. I'll meet you back at the dorm." Isaac responded, walking away and noticing Johnny's exhale of relief.

'I've been meaning to test my Vital Strike anyway.'
