Damian knelt beside me, his arms wrapping around my shoulders, trying to offer some semblance of comfort. "Hayley, he's going to be fine. He's healing."
I wanted to believe Damian's words, but with Ethan's body right in front of me, it was difficult to believe. His condition was far worse than I had imagined, how could Damian say he'd be fine when he had lost a limb? How could he promise me something like that?
"He's missing an arm!" I cried, my voice thick with emotion. "How can you say he'll be fine? Damian, look at him!"
He held him closer, his warmth doing little to calm the storm that was brewing inside of me. What was going on, why were all the bad things happening to me and those that I cared about?
