I entered the room, my gaze fixed on Alice for a while. Just for a brief second, I had sensed a different wavelength of power, one that I couldn't recognize. I had no idea what it was, but my first suspicion had been her, and the locked door had made me even more curious.
Alice stood still, her eyes calm, and her expression almost unreadable. She had been a strange little girl since I had picked her up, but I didn't really care. She was my mate, and while she wasn't exactly something to praise, she had her purpose. But even then, she hadn't exactly fulfilled her purpose. She had definitely helped to curb the rumors that I was cursed to remain mateless, but her infertility had only caused more trouble.
"What were you doing?" I demanded, my voice low and cold, each word dripping with curiosity and a hint of accusation.
