My heart sank as Hayley's words registered. Jerome had already informed her of the attack? That shouldn't be possible, how on earth did he manage to find out that I had been under attack?
"Jerome?" I repeated, trying to piece together the situation. Perhaps I had heard incorrectly.
"Yes, is there something wrong?" Hayley replied, curious and confused at the same time.
"No, it's nothing. Don't worry about it." I replied before giving her a kiss on the cheek. It still didn't make sense how Jerome came to know that I had been attacked, but I didn't want to tell Hayley that someone from her own family could potentially be working with those who wanted to bring her down.
"You should have said something, why didn't you call for help?" Hayley continued, her concern evident in her voice.
"I didn't want to worry you," I said, trying to reassure her. "I thought I could handle it myself, it wasn't a serious attack."
