The last person I expected to walk through the doors that separated me from freedom was Miranda. And although she had just made her appearance, I knew for certain that she was not here to save me..
"Miranda," I called out, my voice tinged with a mixture of surprise and curiosity. "What are you doing here?"
She gave me a cold smile, her eyes glinting with a malice I hadn't seen before. "Hello, Hayley. It seems you've gotten yourself into quite a predicament." She replied as she steadily approached me. She seemed like a completely different person, and while I never really trusted her, I didn't believe that she would stoop to this level.
"Why are you here?" I demanded, trying to keep the tremor out of my voice. "Are you working with Conrad?"
She laughed, a harsh, mocking sound. "Work with Conrad? Oh, no. I have my own interests, and right now, those interests align with his."
