Chapter 146 - Chapter 146: Special Training - U-Turn

After parting ways with Drayden and Roxie, Summer looked at the purple card in his hand. It was a VIP card Roxie had given him, allowing him entry to any concert she participated in. Additionally, he could freely access her underground concert hall in Nimbasa City, Unova.

Roxie had told Summer to visit her in Unova if he had the chance, promising him a spectacular performance. She also hinted at wanting another six-on-six battle.

"Hmm, what should we do today?" Summer pondered as he put away the card.

Rillaboom raised his drumsticks, eager to train his mastery of Drum Beating. The recent battle had highlighted how this move could cover his weakness in long-range attacks. With improving drum skills, Rillaboom realized the move's high versatility, useful for offense, defense, interference, and control.

Meanwhile, Ogerpon wanted to learn new moves. He was impressed by Rillaboom's Drum Beating, High Horsepower, and Acrobatics and wished to master them, though that might be a stretch.

"Learning new moves, right. Viola gave me that booklet on Bug-type moves, and I haven't used it yet," Summer recalled. Viola had handed it to him with a smile, saying she'd come to Sunset Forest to check on his progress. Summer felt like she might show up any time now.

Many Bug-type trainers are tenacious, like the bugs they train, but they can also become quite clingy. He didn't want to disregard Viola's intentions, so he decided to use the booklet for today's training session.

"Today, let's train with new moves, specifically Bug-type moves," Summer suggested.

Ogerpon was delighted. New moves, even if they weren't the ones Rillaboom used, were still exciting.

"Rillaboom, it's good you want to perfect Drum Beating because it aligns with your musical talents. Let me think about the training direction, but feel free to brainstorm too. I trust your creativity," Summer said, walking into his wooden house.

Rillaboom nodded, understanding Summer's intentions. He resolved to surprise Summer with his progress.

Summer picked up the booklet from the shelf. He had skimmed through it before; it contained Signal Beam, Rage Powder, X-Scissor, and U-Turn. Due to previous distractions involving Leafeon and the Distortion World's gateway, he had forgotten about it.

Both Rillaboom and Ogerpon could potentially learn U-Turn. Summer thought it over, considering Ogerpon's agility. He should be able to manage it.

"U-Turn, huh?" For some reason, Summer first thought of two tigers, one red and one orange.

"Anyway, let's see how Viola described it," Summer said, flipping through the booklet. Viola's lively writing matched her sunny disposition.

"As expected, real-world moves differ from games," Summer noted. According to Viola, the essence of U-Turn was to launch a sudden attack and then retreat instantly. Returning to the Poké Ball was just one way to withdraw.

In battles, the move involved harassing the opponent, preventing close combat, and embodying the elusive nature of Bug-type Pokémon. Agility was crucial for mastering this move, and having a Bug-type mentor would speed up the learning process.

"I need to find a Bug-type teacher. Maybe Corviknight knows where to look," Summer decided, heading out with Rillaboom and Ogerpon to find Corviknight. When they met, Corviknight appeared smug, revealing he knew U-Turn.

"When did you learn it?" Summer asked, puzzled.

Corviknight puffed up, explaining that through battles with Bug Pokémon in the forest, he had secretly learned their moves.

"Alright, you can be the teacher then," Summer said, confirming Corviknight's move set, which now included U-Turn and Silver Wind. Normally, Corviknight wouldn't learn these, likely due to his Child Of The Wind potential.

"Understood. I'll teach them just once, so pay attention," Corviknight declared.

Corviknight soared into the sky, becoming a blur of yellow-green light, and struck Rillaboom's chest with a swift wing attack. He then executed a unique spin to maintain his speed, returning to his original position in an instant.

"The key is this unique spin. Remember it, Rillaboom, Ogerpon," Summer analyzed.

Ogerpon eagerly imitated Corviknight, becoming a blur of yellow-green light, and struck Corviknight's chest with his stick before swiftly returning to his original spot.

Ogerpon's first successful attempt left him elated. "Great job, Ogerpon! Keep practicing to master it," Summer praised.

Rillaboom, inspired, also tried the move. With the same charge but using his fists, he spun back to his position, showing rapid progress.

"Rillaboom is learning quickly too. Excellent," Summer commended, pleased with his Pokémon's efforts.

Corviknight shed a tear, not from the attacks but from the realization of their immense talent. He had practiced countless times to learn the move, while they mastered it instantly. Such natural talent was impressive but also daunting.
