"Julian, sweetie?" My mother's gentle voice called out.

I quickly dismissed the window, startled.

"Ah, yes, Mom?" I turned to look into her eyes, noticing a flicker of concern on her face.

"Are you okay?" She inspected my face with a gentle touch, her brow furrowed.

Sniff... sniff...

"Did you happen to see any monsters on your way home today?"

Oh, crap... My heart pounded.

It seems a "Supreme Grade" in Motherly Love was no joke.

She couldn't possibly know about the wolvens, could she?

"Um... no?" I forced a smile, hoping my voice didn't betray my nerves.

But her brow furrowed even deeper. "Are you sure?"

[You are shaken...]

The System's words flashed across my vision, and I realized my body was trembling slightly in my mother's presence.

This can't be right, I thought, panic rising in my chest. How could she sense my fear? Was it her magic? Or was it just a mother's intuition?

Suddenly, her expression softened.

"No matter, Julian," she said, giving me a reassuring hug.

"If you didn't encounter any monsters with the Elder today, I'll go prepare dinner."

I nodded quickly, a wave of relief washing over me as I escaped her scrutiny.

I dashed off towards the bathroom, eager to splash some cold water on my face.

Looking in the mirror, I noticed the sweat beading on my forehead. It had been a close call.

But luckily, there were no visible marks left on my body after nearly getting trampled by a giant boar.

I wasn't sure if it was due to my resilience or the newly awakened "Essence of God's Gift."

Either way, I was grateful for it.

And to think, just using that gift had tripled my strength!

I grinned at my reflection. I might be the luckiest five-year-old alive.

...

...

...

[The Next Day...]

"Ugh... my arms..."

I could barely lift them.

The aches and pains from yesterday's battle radiated through my entire body.

As I sat up from my bed, I realized today was just another day to wait and pass the time until I got older.

But I wouldn't waste it.

I had powers to master, secrets to uncover.

If I wanted to be as strong as Kaelan, the hero of this world, I needed to start training.

Now.

As a five-year-old, my usual routine consisted of dressing in my brown shirt and brown pants, admiring myself in the mirror, and then taking a nice warm bath in the stone tub equipped with a magic-powered heater, a luxury installed by a magic engineer three years ago.

Not much had changed in my routine, but I always looked forward to adding new elements.

After yesterday's events, a new opportunity had opened up for me: training and, well, bullying monsters to my heart's content.

After all, Ezekiel and I had defeated a Low-Class Boss Monster.

Oh... and I also had this.

[Item has been Appraised from the Skill: Observation (LV.1 MAX)]

[Displaying Contents...]

__________

Item: Bristleback Boss Stone (Low Grade)

Contents: This is a boss monster stone, it can be used for various things such as Alchemy, cultivation, or selling.

Value: ???

__________

Activating my Observation skill is amazing.

I could now display the contents of any item I chose.

It would have been difficult to figure out an item's value or contents before, but with Observation, that wouldn't be a problem.

After drying my hair with a magical heater towel, I placed the crystal into a small pouch and tucked it under my pillow.

Now... let's see what my mother made for breakfast.

Heading down to the kitchen, I could smell the delicious aromas of food, but as I entered the empty room, I realized the stove had been left on.

One pot held a simmering broth filled with chicken, and the other pot was... wait...

Did she learn how to make chicken katsu?!

That should be impossible though.

Had she already figured out an alternative recipe for panko bread crumbs?

It made sense, considering her "Genius Cook" trait.

I must have underestimated her culinary skills.

After all, I wasn't familiar with how well she did things in the five years I've been here.

To think that the trait could be the equivalent of a Michelin chef.

"Hold on..." I paused, snapping out of my foodie trance.

Something wasn't right.

Not only was my mother missing in the kitchen, but I could hear a faint conversation coming from outside.

Then, a familiar breeze brushed against my face, and I noticed the front door was open.

Where did my mother go?
