The kid had a petrifying expression. His eyes killed Yvette's curiosity and bore it with skepticism and regret to have ever questioned. It was terrifying and an eerie.
"Strangling?"
"He looked like he was being strangled." The boy had a blank expression across his face. Although, his eyes which was once possessing a shiny glint in the depths of his soft-colored, green eyes had lost its light. He looked remorseless, or perhaps eerily looking to even hold a stare with.
"W-What do we do? Is it normal for priests to be like that underwater? I don't really get why part of a priest's job is swimming in dirty water, but do they purify it that way? Do they clean pools as a side job or just this one? Nevermind that, I'm being frantic right now..." Yvette had her hands on her head, lightly close to pulling all of the strands of her hair off her scalp. She was speaking so fast that the child was barely able to keep up with the words she enunciated.
Yvette gulped, breathing out. "Am I being over the top?"
The child nodded politely. "Haa...just tell me what do we do, then? I don't know if such thing is normal."
"Well..." The boy thought for a bit. "Priests dive into pools to be able to cross over to hell. Whatever is happening with his body down there is also happening to him in hell."
"Seriously?!"
Yvette never knew why she did it, she had no idea at all. She was not noble enough, no, she was never noble. But she had already felt the water touch her skin before she could have realized anything that was happening to her. She only had opened her eyes to the fact that she had swam in the pool, 8 feet in depth to rescue a dying priest. That was so unlike her, she thought.
Damn, a missing priest in an 8-feet pool let a demon from wherever place touch his neck and I'm moving without thinking just to save him. I can't breathe already, I feel like this is the last day I'm gonna see the light of day. Should I repent of my sins? No, it's too late for that, I did not die on the cross with Him to be forgiven that instant, besides, he stole and I did bigger things other than stealing. (Referring to the thief with Christ on the cross). Despite that being a fairytale in the Christian book, I still think I wouldn't be forgiven as fast. Shit, I'd just cuss out every word I think of.
Yvette felt the oxygen stored in her lungs incapable of even reaching the priest. If ever she was even to reach the priest's location, she wouldn't be able to get him up there.
Fuck, I'm a risk taker. I can do shit.
It did not take any minute longer for Yvette to find the priest, nonetheless. Just as the child had said, he was there, as if he was being electrocuted, he remained unmoved and unconscious.
Damn, demons be for real.
Yvette paddled her feet wisely, allowing her to dive in deeper the level of the priest. He surely looked like at least half of his leg being buried in the grave already. She reached her arm toward him, grabbing his wrist. But Yvette seemed to have the lungs of a person giving up, she was short on breathing. But she was so near! She felt the pair of her lungs getting breached by water which she took from trying to breathe underwater.
Yvette had no other choice, she flung her arm high, although feeling the pressure of the water weigh on her arms, she had successfully at least made the priest's cassock seen above water. It all became a blur for her after that.
Damn, that was really the last of it, huh? My ears feel like bursting. Ugh, did I just hit my head? Whatever.
Yvette had her sense knocked out. It was the least unexpected. Who could have thought that she would surrender her life this way? She used to think of a different way of the ending, but maybe God has a different plan after all.
Well, despite that, Yvette never really took passion on any regret as she watched her eyes slowly died down like a television going static until it was fully shut down. She never felt contrite about ever leaving the car or wondering off. She felt that she had lived enough, despite all the sins she was responsible for, it was enough for her to conclude she had lived a fun life. That was enough.
But beyond this thoughts, Yvette had just seen the face of an angel. Those were the same soft features she had always looked up to since childhood. The face of her beloved older twin sister, Lorelai. She had been there as a parental substitute only for Yvette to have realized how precious she really was. Although what she saw, it looked more like a memory.
I wonder what she'll feel for me. Would she cry? I've never seen her cry before, she's strong. Would she put up that tough facade? Will she hug my dead body? Will she remember my jokes by it? I just wish she would live a good life. Dying at the convent can get on the news, would I be famous, then? My lifelong dream fulfilled by simply dying.
It was a sudden feeling, but something more abrupt became her contender.
It was scorching hot on her back, so hot she felt she was being fried in an oven but slowly it died down to a room temperature.
It was dark. She had nothing to see but a pitch black environment. She can see nothing at all. The echoes reached her ears as if soles of a pair of boots walking across a stone stepped corridor. She had the feeling where it was headed, but she cannot even see what it was. She inhaled deeply, it sent chills down her spine but a part of her wished she could see who it was.
It was then so unlike her for her mind to completely went blank, she was just there sitting upright as if she was out of herself. So out of herself that whatever was approaching, she just waited for it.
"There you are." It was a deep voice, very deep, exactly. The wind brushed her arm as if there was something which passed by her. "I did not intend to meet you this way, but there was no other reason I found to completely get a hold of you. Everyone in that horrendous little playhouse were frantic enough."
He laughed.
Yvette grew wide-eyed. It was the first time she had heard that voice, but it was so familiar. Like a static memory being a pest in the system, her memory had seem to fail looking for where she had that voice discovered. As she raised her upper lip open, Yvette found herself in no position to speak, or rather, she was not permitted to do so. It felt like she had a muzzle on her lips, and her throat seemed to be dry and sore. Almost as if her voice was taken.
"You talk too much. I had no other choice." His voice sounded as if he was jesting, although somewhat truthful. Fingers crept up her face, a cold but also somewhat a warm feeling caressed her shallow cheeks. "I am in need of you."
Yvette was dumbfounded, uncertain. Devils have their charm by making victims out of humans. Whether they possess them, tear them apart, make a mess out of them, play with them, there are a list of things these beings can do. What will become of her if it were to happen? What's more, did she just cross over to hell? But it doesn't look like hell to her. Well, she couldn't see anything.
She rustled her hands which seemed to be tied with a band she couldn't sight. Her struggle was in vain.
"Don't fear, you'll be free very soon. After all, it was solely you who I wanted. They can come save you."
His speech was disfiguring her mind. It was hard to decipher meanings from and it ached her shrunken skull. Although this was conjuring enough, Yvette felt his breath blow to her ear. It felt like a spider had crawled on her spine causing a petrifying tingle from her back up to her brain. It hurt, but it was simply mild to her senses.
This time, it was a voice that came after his sigh. The deep voice was changed with a soft, gentle touch of a gentleman's throat. As if a thriller, she was tormented with fear and relief at the same time. It was going against her system the same way. It felt so surreal, moreover, so confusing.
What power does this being ever possess? It seemed troublesome and mind-boggling. It hurt her chest a little and it withdrew the other second. It was pushing and pulling her to certain emotions to which she felt she was completely being played with.
But there was to no avail in denying, that his voice was as sweet as honey.
"But that doesn't mean I won't leave you in their hands for long."
